  • Patent number: 7274653
Abstract: A hierarchical QAM system allows the transmission of different sources by embedding the relative constellation points. A QAM transmitting system, includes a source of a level 1 and a level 2 data stream, each data stream carrying successive symbols. A hierarchical QAM transmitter, coupled to the level 1 and level 2 data stream source, generates a hierarchical QAM signal in which a level 1 symbol is represented by a data point in one of four quadrants in the I-Q plane, and a level 2 symbol is represented by the data point in one of four sub-quadrants surrounding a center point of the quadrant containing the level 1 data point. The level 2 data point is spaced away from the center point by a grouping factor set to more closely match the bit error rate performance of the level 1 and level 2 data streams.

  • Patent number: 7149259
Abstract: A OAM receiver includes a source of a received hierarchical OAM signal. The hierarchical OAM signal represents successive data points in the I-Q plane, each data point being in one of four quadrants. Circuitry, coupled to the hierarchical OAM signal source, calculates the location in the I-Q plane of the center-of-gravity of successive received data points in a quadrant. A level 1 decoder is responsive to a received data point and detects the quadrant in the I-Q plane of a received data point. Further circuitry, coupled to the hierarchical OAM signal source and responsive to the calculating circuitry, translates the received data point in the I-Q plane such that the center-of-gravity of the detected quadrant is translated to the origin of the I-Q plane. A level 2 decoder is then responsive to the translated data point for detecting the quadrant of the translated data point.

  • Publication number: 20060207846
Abstract: Generic spring/damper units are either too big or require too much mounting space or have only relatively small spring/damper compartments and are therefore not sufficiently efficient. To improve the ratio between the overall size of a spring/damper unit and the size of the damper or spring/damper compartments of the spring/damper unit, the overflow throttles (21, 22) are arranged in the cylinder housing (1) between the damper compartment (10) that is increased in size during spring compression and the spring compartment (17) that is reduced in size during spring compression, thereby reducing the dimensions of the separating piston (6) and the piston rod (7) and making the overflow throttles (21, 22) more accessible from the exterior.

  • Patent number: 7079585
Abstract: A hierarchical QAM system allows the transmission of different sources by embedding the relative constellation points. At the transmitter the constellations generated by the different sources are remapped by a grey coder and then combined. At the receiver, the different source data are decoded by using a corresponding grey code demapper.

  • Patent number: 7073116
Abstract: The power of the respective codes used by the first and second error detection/correction circuitry are such that the coded bit error rate of the first data stream is more closely matched to the coded bit error rate of the second data stream. A hierarchical QAM system allows the transmission of different sources by embedding the relative constellation points. The hierarchical QAM transmitter encodes the first data stream using a code having a first detection/correction power and encodes the second data stream using a code having a second detection/correction power.

  • Patent number: 6412759
Abstract: The invention relates to a system which includes an air spring (2) which, in turn, encloses an air volume (16). The system also includes a controllable shock absorber (4) connected in parallel to the air volume. Furthermore, the system includes an ancillary volume (22) with which the air volume (16) of the air spring (2) is connected via a controllable throttle (20). The stiffness and the total damping of the system can be pregiven via a control of the throttle (20) and of the controllable shock absorber (4) independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 5253281
Abstract: An x-ray diagnostics installation for subtraction angiography has an x-ray radiator which generates an x-ray beam that penetrates a patient, the resulting image being processed in an x-ray image intensifier video chain wherein the x-ray image is converted into a sequence of video signals for display. The video chain includes an image memory for storing the video signals and a difference-forming unit for subtracting the stored video signals from current video signals to form difference video signals. An image reproduction stage has various adjustment elements permitting variation of parameters identifying a region or a window of brightness values for reproducing the video signals on the display. By means of the adjustment elements, various image parameters, such as background brightness and darkening of the blood vessels, can be set independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 4509074
Abstract: A television installation comprising a circuit arrangement for amplification alteration or variation of the video signal in dependence upon its current mean value as compared to a reference mean value. A television camera and monitor are provided, and the current video signal is intermediately stored in an image memory. A mean value is formed in a mean value circuit. This value is compared in relation to a reference value of a reference circuit. A factor is supplied in the form of an output signal of a division stage to a multiplication stage in which the factor is multiplied with the video signal contained in the image memory. The video signal is thereby standardized to a reference value.
