Patent number: 11721144Abstract: This disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for eliminating false activation of components of a vehicle when the vehicle is parked in a garage. Example components can be a door lock, a door latch, a door activation servomotor, or a light. In an example method, a vehicle entry authorization system of a vehicle operates a sensor system to obtain dimensional information of an interior portion of the garage. The vehicle entry authorization system may then detect a presence of a mobile device (such as a phone-as-a-key or a vehicle key fob) and determines the location of the mobile device based on the dimensional information. If the mobile device is located outside the garage, the vehicle entry authorization system refrains from activating a component of the vehicle. However, if the mobile device is located inside the garage, the vehicle entry authorization system activates the component.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2021Date of Patent: August 8, 2023Inventors: Stuart Salter, Kristopher Brown, Peter Kung, Mike Kipley, John Van Wiemeersch, Hussein Berry

Patent number: 10816606Abstract: An electrical system includes a voltage bus, voltage sensor(s) measuring a first voltage between a positive bus rail and electrical ground, and a second voltage between a negative bus rail and electrical ground, a bias resistor, and a controller. When the switch is closed, the controller measures four or more discrete voltage samples of the first and second voltages. The samples are grouped into first and second sample groups each having three discrete voltage samples, with the second and third voltage samples of the first group being the first and second samples of the second group. The controller estimates a steady-state voltage of the first and second voltages using the sample groups, prior to the first and second voltages converging on actual steady-state voltage values. The controller executes a corresponding control action when the steady-state voltage estimate is stable or unstable relative to a defined stability threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2019Date of Patent: October 27, 2020Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Yue Fan, Russell K. Steele, Andrew C. Baughman, Peter Kung Chiang

Patent number: 10066738Abstract: A method of controlling a transmission having a gearbox and a pump operable to circulate a fluid through the gearbox, includes sensing an acceleration of the vehicle, and adjusting an operating state of the pump. The operating state of the pump is adjusted to change the operating state of the pump from an initial operating state, to an adjusted operating state, when the acceleration of the vehicle is greater than an acceleration threshold. When the acceleration of the vehicle decreases from being greater than the acceleration threshold to being below the acceleration threshold, the operating state of the pump is returned to the initial operating state. The operating state of the pump may include a speed of the pump, a control signal representing a fluid flow rate for the current speed of the pump, or a fluid flow circuit for supplying the fluid to the pump.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2015Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Russell K. Patent number: 10065518Abstract: An off-board charging device disposed to electrically charge an electric energy storage system via an electrical charging system on-board a vehicle is described. This includes an electric machine electrically connected to the electric energy storage system and is disposed to supply propulsion effort to the vehicle. A method for controlling the off-board charging device includes determining severity of a drive cycle that occurs prior to a charging event for the electric energy storage system. A charging profile is determined based upon the severity of the drive cycle. A controller commands operation of the off-board charging device based upon the charging profile.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2016Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Russell K. Patent number: 5892097Abstract: The transesterification of substituted lower alkyl hydroxyhydrocinnamates with a higher alcohol or a polyol is greatly facilitated by the use of a trace amount of a tin catalyst. In many cases, the amount of the catalyst is so small that it is unnecessary to remove it from the final product by distillation of said product.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1997Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Assignee: Ciba Specialty Chemicals CorporationInventors: John R. Patent number: 5628160Abstract: Elastic elements which can be connected together to form a flooring covering include a rectangular plastic frame, interconnected struts within the frame forming a lattice structure, male couplings in the form of elongated bars extending outwardly of the frame and having end plates, and female couplings in the form of spring latches inside the frame to connect with the elongated bars of adjacent elements. Springs extending outwardly of the frame contact an adjacent element to maintain a predetermined spacing therebetween, while the latches of female couplings contact the stop plates of cooperating male couplings to limit separation of the adjacent elements.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1995Date of Patent: May 13, 1997Assignee: Sportforderung Peter Kung AGInventor: Peter Kung

Patent number: 4773174Abstract: The supporting and suspending frame, detachably assembled from a plurality of supporting frame elements, serves to suspend flat reproductions, in particular photographic reproductions, of paper, film or fabric smoothly in the frame by means of tensioning springs. Every supporting frame element has an at least partly circularly curved narrow side and a contiguous flat wide side at right angles thereto. The inside face of the wide side is provided with a supporting member that extends in the longitudinal direction of the wide side and is open in the transverse direction of the wide side. The tensioning springs, which are fastened to the edges of the reproduction by means of eyes, can be suspended directly in and displaced along the supporting member.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1987Date of Patent: September 27, 1988Assignee: Stutz Foto-Color-Technik AGInventors: Hanspeter Boeniger, Peter Kung, Otto Durst

Patent number: 4695528Abstract: In order to be able, in a simple manner, to erase, by heating, data recorded on bodies with reversible, temperature-variable light extinctions, and then to be able to use the body anew for the recording of data, these bodies consists of at least one polymer material and/or resin matrix material (A) and at least one organic low-molecular substance (B), which is insoluble, at least partially, in the latter and which is contained therein as a dispersed second phase, whereby the pair of materials (A/B) possess variable light extinctions below a specific temperature (T.sub.0) in dependence on a previous heating above T.sub.0 and are so constituted that, upon being heated above a conversion temperature (T.sub.2) which lies above T.sub.0, and being cooled off subsequently to below T.sub.0, yields maximum light extinction; and, upon being heated in the state of maximum light extinction to a temperature (T.sub.1) which lies above T.sub.0 and below T.sub.2, and subsequent cooling off to below T.sub.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1982Date of Patent: September 22, 1987Assignee: Wolfgang DabischInventors: Wolfgang H.
