  • Publication number: 20070258392
Abstract: Communication in a MIMO network is optimized by selecting a first set of users comprising at least one user, selecting a second set of users not comprised in the first set, adapting communication parameters for the first set of users according to a first principle suitable, e.g. SVD, adapting communication parameters for the second set of users according to a second principle, e.g. opportunistic MIMO, and transmitting to the first set of user terminals according to the first communication parameters and to the second set of user terminals according to the second communication parameters. In this way, communication with one or a few users can be optimized while network resources can be used in an efficient way also for other users.

  • Publication number: 20070160014
Abstract: The present invention relates to relay supported wireless communication to enhance communication performance. In the wireless communication system according to the invention neighboring relay stations are arranged with substantially overlapping coverage. In the method according to the invention mobile stations makes soft association to relay stations. The mobile stations feed back the selection of relay stations and channel quality measures to the base station. The base station adapts the transmission to the relay stations based on each mobile stations reported soft associations and channel quality measures. In this way the control signaling to and from the relay stations can be very limited.

  • Publication number: 20070149135
Abstract: A multiple path information transfer system in a cellular radio network includes several receivers (BS-1, . . . , BS-N) for receiving radio signals representing digital information from at least one signal source. From each received radio signal a corresponding digitized baseband signal that contains soft information is extracted. Compressing units (10) compress the soft information to produce compressed baseband signals. These compressed signals are forwarded to a combining unit over a transport network. A de-compressor (16) de-compresses the forwarded signals to at least approximately restore the baseband signals. The de-compressed signals are combined (18-22) and the combined signal is decoded to at least approximately restore the digital information.

  • Publication number: 20070147254
Abstract: In a multihop communications network a cost determination method includes determining a plurality of simultaneously potential or favorable next hop nodes for at least one of the nodes between a source and a destination node pair, whereby a mesh-like path comprising a plurality of simultaneously potential routes or paths is defined between the source and destination node. This mesh-like structure is typically determined in a distributed manner and results from a cost optimization process. The cost optimization should preferably consider stochastic variations that for example are caused by the wireless medium.

  • Publication number: 20070099666
Abstract: The present invention relates to beamforming in a multi-carrier multi-user communication system applying an adaptive method for determining transmit weights for the various antenna beams. A set of complex transmission weights is adapted in response to appropriate feedback information on transmission quality from receiving units in order to achieve a maximisation of a function of said quality indicator and thus optimise the transmission of the pilot signal.

  • Publication number: 20070101015
Abstract: A multihop network and nodes are described herein that implement a reactive routing protocol that enables resources of the multihop network to be continuously adapted in a distributed/opportunistic manner in response to a topology change within the multihop network so as to optimize the performance of a connection between a source node and a destination node. The types of resources that can be adapted include for example: (1) a route; (2) a channel; and/or (3) physical layer parameters. And, the different types of topology changes that can occur include for example: (1) movement of a node; (2) quality variations in a channel between the source node and the destination node; (3) changes in traffic patterns in the multihop network; (4) changes in transmit patterns (e.g., power, beamforming direction) in the multihop network; and (5) changes in resource allocations in the multihop network.

  • Publication number: 20070054621
Abstract: The invention considers a plurality of receiving nodes (120-1, 120-2 and 120-3) such as base stations in a wireless network. Each receiving node (120) converts a superposition of signals received from a plurality of transmitting nodes such as mobile terminals (10) to produce soft complex signal information. A basic idea according to the invention is to collect the soft complex signal information associated with the considered plurality of receiving nodes, for example in a central node (130) and jointly detect signal information transmitted from at least a subset of the plurality of transmitting nodes (10) based on the collected soft complex signal information. The collected soft signal information generally retains phase and amplitude information, and the transmitted signals are preferably detected in a joint detection process based on a complex channel representation and collected soft signal information.

  • Publication number: 20060229017
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, signal information representative of a first set of information to be transmitted more than one time over at least one link is stored as a priori known signal information. This could be previously received and/or, detected information, own transmitted information or otherwise available relevant signal information in the node. Signal information representative of a second set of information is received, wherein a transmission of the first set of information interferes with the reception of the second set of information. In spite of the interference, at least part of the second set of information can still be successfully be detected by exploiting the received signal information and at least part of the previously stored a priori known signal information. The information is detected by interference cancellation based on the received signal information and relevant parts of the a priori known information.

  • Publication number: 20060189331
Abstract: In a multi-access communication system, a terminal is kept reachable through a first access network, which is most resource efficient one of the available access networks for keeping the terminal reachable. The terminal scans passively for the existence of usable base stations for other access networks of the system and reports data associated with such existences to the first access network. When a request for a call to the terminal is received, a paging is performed in the first access network. The paging message comprises information about preferred access network, based on the reported data of the existence of usable base stations or access points of other access networks. The terminal connects to the preferred access network and performs a call set-up directly in the preferred access network.

  • Publication number: 20060154603
Abstract: A method for a data transmission with ARQ protocol using multicast groups such as GSM, GPRS or UMTS in a mobile communication system is described. Data is transmitted in data blocks (PDU) from a transmitter (T) to a plurality of receivers (R1-RM), said data blocks (PDU) being identifiable by an identification (e.g. a sequence number). The receivers (R1-RM) send status indications to the transmitter (T) whether a data block (PDU) is correctly received. The transmitter (T) is adapted to perform retransmissions according to the status indications and has a transmission window comprising the transmission status for the data blocks (PDU) according to their identification. In the method, a synchronization to the transmitter (T) is performed for at least one first of said receivers (Ri), wherein a range of identifications of transmitted data block (PDU) is selected in said synchronization.

  • Patent number: 6842487
Abstract: A method and/or an apparatus for mitigating intersymbol interference. In systems which employ transmission diversity when transmitting symbols which have a guard interval, the multiple versions of the transmitted symbols have the samples of the transmitted symbols shifted relative to each version transmitted. The shifted samples of the transmitted symbol are shifted from the end of the transmitted symbol into the beginning of the transmitted symbol. A last number of samples of the transmitted symbol are copied and placed in the guard interval which precedes the symbol. The guard interval and the symbol are transmitted to a receiver.
