  • Publication number: 20230315518
Abstract: Individual processors of a storage system are analyzed to determine which thread types are most important for servicing a run workload, where importance is measured by number of CPU cycles used. Permutations of differentiated access to CPU cycles are calculated, where the most important thread types are provided with greater access to CPU cycles than thread types of lesser importance. The permutations are tested with the same run workload to determine which permutation yields the greatest average IOPS. The thread scheduler for the processor is configured with that permutation.

  • Patent number: 6515254
Abstract: A method for surface working a tribological coating of a supereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy or an aluminum-silicon composite material with a coating structure includes machining the surface dry, without lubricant, in a one-step process, with a cutting tool having a cutting material containing diamond. The surface treating may be followed by a one-step finish honing or one-step texturing process.

  • Patent number: 6444948
Abstract: A process and device are disclosed for fine and micro-machining workpieces by means of laser beams. The process is conducted in several stages and the device has a modular design. The process and device make it possible to generate highly uniform cut seams or grooves, to set the required conicity, to work in a highly accurate and reproducible manner and give a great freedom of design during machining.

  • Publication number: 20010023859
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the surface working of a tribological coating of a supereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy or an aluminum-silicon composite material with a coating structure, wherein the surface is reworked after the production of the coating. Provision is made according to the invention that the surface is machined dry, without lubricant, in a one-step process, a cutting tool with a cutting material containing diamond being used. This can be followed by an additional working process. Preferably a combination process of dry machining and one-step finish honing or one-step texturing by radiation is provided.

  • Patent number: 5859405
Abstract: A method and a device for the precision turning of a workpiece made of a heat-treatable steel permits a dry hard precision turning of hardened workpiece surfaces without tempering. In order also to allow precision turning and hardening of unhardened workpiece surfaces which are simultaneous in terms of production time, use is made of the local temporary heating of the workpiece caused by machining. The workpiece surface is heated further locally by the action of a laser beam, in the region directly behind the cutter, up to the transformation temperature of the material to be machined via an optical fiber integrated in the tool. The surface is then self-quenched and, as a result, hardened close to the surface. At the same time, the surface temperature at the point of action of the laser beam can be recorded thermographically and, this actual temperature signal can be used to adjust the power of the laser beam so as to maintain the desired temperature.

  • Patent number: 5476075
Abstract: The invention resides in a hollow rocker-arm shaft with multiple internal passages for an internal combustion engine which rocker-arm shaft consists of two shell sections forming circular segments which are welded together by a weld seam extending along the longitudinal edges of the circular segments and at least one dividing wall extends through the interior of the hollow shaft between the weld seams and divides the interior of the hollow shaft into at least two passages.

  • Patent number: 5134264
Abstract: A device for induction heating of the inside of cylinder liners of reciprocating-piston engines to a transformation temperature, for the purpose of hardening. An inductor head is equipper with an aligning device designed as a spreadable cage which is equipped on the outside with clamping bars, clamping bosses a clamping shells which can be applied free from play and under the effect of force against the inner surface of the cylinder liner. The inductor loop is also displaced radially and brought into the working position by means of these clamping shells. Heating and hardening is carried out only with the inductor head in the clamped and exactly aligned state, whereas, after the clamping shells and the inductor loops have been released, a further indexed movement of the inductor head is possible. The work is carried out at relatively high alternating-current frequencies in the range between 400 and 500 kHz and at relatively high energy densities in the range above 5 kw/cm.sup.2 .
