  • Patent number: 8327758
Abstract: An apparatus for strapping an article by means of a flat tape includes least one tape guide frame having a flat tape guide passage, and a tape drive for feeding the tape into the tape guide passage, wherein arranged at the tape guide frame is an opening device which opens a narrow side of the tape guide passage, and a method of strapping an article with such an apparatus. The opening device may include at least one cover element which is movably secured to the tape guide frame and which is movable from a closed position in which it covers the narrow side of the tape guide passage into an open position in which it opens the narrow side of the tape guide passage. In that way a fresh tape loop can be introduced into the tape guide passage before the welding operation is concluded.

  • Patent number: 7121447
Abstract: In an ultrasonic welding apparatus comprising an ultrasonic sonotrode and a backing plate, flat workpieces to be welded are pressed between the sonotrode and the backing plate. Projections are provided on a portion of the surface of the sonotrode and on a portion of the surface of the backing plate, each projection-bearing surface portion being adjoined by a smooth portion. The flat workpieces are for example ends of a strapping tape formed in a loop around a package in a strapping machine and the aim is to produce a weld of increased strength.

  • Patent number: 6032440
Abstract: The invention is a machine for tying up or hooping packing units with an elongated strip of binding material, such as bondable plastic. During operation of the machine, the strip is drawn from a take-up device of a supply roller through a strip conveyor device and a strip guide, then is wound around the packing unit as a loop. The loop is tightened by means of a tensioning assembly comprising a tension roller and a pressing device which presses the strip against the tension roller, such that the loop is placed under tension. Once the packing unit is tightly secured, the strip is sealed by means of a sealing device. The present hoop-casing machine permits a high tension force to be exerted on the strip loop to be sealed. For this purpose, the tension roller comprises on its peripheral surface a high friction surface. At least one rejecter is provided for preventing excess wear on the high friction surface during the tensioning step.

  • Patent number: 5540310
Abstract: A brake shoe (12) is guided on an anchor plate (10) of a drum brake and held down by a pin (32) which extends through a hole (34, 36) each in the anchor plate and in a web (18) of the brake shoe (12). The pin (32) has a foot (38) which is supported on the anchor plate (10) and a head (42) which has a bottom of rotationally symmetrical configuration with respect to the pin (32) and rises radially outwardly. Between the head (42) and the web (18) a spring (46) is arranged which has a receiving portion (50) formed with a recessed seat (52) for the head (42) and with a slot (60) which serves for radially slipping the receiving portion (50) on to the pin (32). The seat (52) is shaped like a funnel having a circular upper edge (54). The slot (60) is defined by a pair of outer edges (62) and a pair of adjoining inner edges (64). The outer edges (62) of the slot (60) converge in the direction of the upper edge (54) of the seat (52).
