  • Patent number: 6702926
Abstract: A wire section for forming a multi-ply fiber web. The wire section includes a first belt which advances a first fiber ply toward a couch roll defining a combining section. A twin-wire zone of the wire section includes first and second wires between which a second fiber ply is initially formed in a gap former. The second wire separates from the first wire and then the first wire supporting the second fiber ply meets the first belt supporting the first fiber ply at the couch roll of the combining section to form the multi-ply fiber web. The twin-wire part is arranged upstream of the combining section along the running direction of the first belt. The second fiber ply runs on the first wire into the combining section at an angle less than 90° with respect to the belt entering the combining section. The path of the wires from the forming roll to the combining section is disclosed. A suction box or arrangement holds the second fiber ply to the first wire when the first and second wires separate.

  • Patent number: 5695611
Abstract: Process for modifying an existing breast box for a paper or cartonmaking machine as well as an intermediate portion for carrying out the process. During the fabrication of a breast box for a paper or cartonmaking machine an intermediate portion is interposed between a supply apparatus and a downstream guiding device, with the material suspension flowing through this intermediate portion wherein, via supply lines, located on the intermediate portion, a liquid is added which differs from that of the suspension stream. Particularly, in this manner, already existing breast boxes can be converted, to water dilution technology, with this invention setting forth special embodiments of differing intermediate portions that can be utilized therefor.

  • Patent number: 5163364
Abstract: Calendering takes place in a calendering zone which operates under pressure with application of temperature and moisture. The desired smoothness is achieved with a correspondingly long dwell time of the material web in a correspondingly long calendering zone in view of the speed of web travel. A web which is still wet is guided between parallel heatable surfaces which are arranged on both sides of the web and face each other through the web and can each be pressed against the web. The surfaces are designed to form and hold a given precise contour of the calendering zone over its full length. One surface is constructed e.g. as a casing of a heated roller and the second surface is constructed as an endless flexible belt which can be pressed in a direction towards the roller casing by means of a concave supporting element. If wished, the web can be calendered on both sides with the method.

  • Patent number: 5071513
Abstract: At least two substantially parallel rows of adjustable pressure elements cooperate with a heatable counter element like a counter roll and are arranged immediately consecutive but separate from each other to define at least two pressing sections of an extended pressing zone through which a water-containing fibrous web is passed conjointly with a water absorbing porous band or felt in a predeterminate travel direction. Pressures and temperatures in each one of the at least two pressing sections of the extended pressing zone are adjusted such that water is displaced from the fibrous web under the combined action of pressure and steam which is formed in the extended pressing zone in a controlled manner and without damage to the fibrous web due to explosion-like flash evaporation.

  • Patent number: 4662992
Abstract: In a particularly simple construction a twin-wire papermaking machine possesses a reduced number of rolls as well as a compact arrangement. The foregoing and the greatest possible velocity of a through-passed paper web can be obtained by employing non-suction rolls, instead of suction rolls, in a pressing section of such papermaking machine, by upwardly entraining the paper web conjointly with a top or upper wire of a twin wire arrangement and by transferring the paper web to a pressing roll having a smooth surface, and furthermore, by providing at the pressing roll an extended or wide-nip supporting shoe by means of which the paper web is dewatered in an extended pressing nip zone. Advantageously, the dewatered paper web is taken off from the surface of the pressing roll in a downward direction and fed to a drying section of the papermaking machine. The drying section may be arranged below the pressing section and directly adjacent the bottom or lower wire of the twin wire arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4661206
Abstract: In a wet press for dewatering a web of material, for instance a paper web, a contact pressure device is provided which presses against a rotating roll and exerts an incrementally increasing pressure in the direction of travel of the paper web. The contact pressure device comprises only a single pressure element arranged in the direction of travel of the paper web. The pressure element has two or more pressure pockets arranged sequentially in the direction of web travel and which are connected with a common pressure chamber by conduits. The increasing contact pressure is attained by arranging the pressure element unsymmetrically in relation to the pressure chamber. The effective pressure cross-sectional areas of pressure pockets arranged sequentially in the direction of web travel can additionally be reduced in the direction of web travel or the cross-sections of the associated bores can be increased.

  • Patent number: 4570314
Abstract: A press roll contains a stationary roll support or beam and a roll shell rotatable about the stationary roll support, the roll shell being formed of an easily deformable material. The roll shell is supported at a support surface located at the region of the roll support. This support surface can be convex and possess a larger radius than the radius of the roll shell, can be planar or concave. Guide surfaces possessing a convex profile laterally merge at the support surface. The support surface and the guide surfaces are provided with a pressure lubrication and possibly with hydrostatic bearing pockets. A support part or element can be movable in relation to the stationary roll support or beam in the manner of controlled deflection rolls.
