  • Patent number: 4414743
Abstract: A portable circular saw has a saw-blade compartment for accommodating a circular saw-blade, a motor compartment secured to the saw-blade compartment and projecting transversely therefrom away from the saw-blade, a rear handle extending rearwardly from the saw-blade compartment, and a forward handle connected to the saw-blade compartment and projecting transversely therefrom away from the saw-blade. The forward handle is hollow and defines a passageway therein which is in communication with the interior of the saw-blade compartment and is also adapted to be connected to a vacuum system, whereby this forward handle forms part of a sawdust removal system. Preferably, a strut forms part of and connects the forward handle to the motor compartment thereby defining a closed handle. The passageway in the forward handle is preferably connected to a fan in the motor compartment, but may be connected to an external source of vacuum.

  • Patent number: 4312421
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a sound absorbing arrangement for a power lawnmower in which sound absorbing material is provided within the body of the lawnmower to reduce noise by attenuating resonance caused by the lawnmower motor. In addition to reducing noise, the sound absorbing material imparts structural rigidity to the lawnmower body or housing, and also may be used to define air passages within the lawnmower body for use in cooling the motor.

  • Patent number: 4297831
Abstract: A cutting blade for a rotary mower has a generally horizontally disposed, elongated blade body adapted for rotational movement about the vertical axis thereof when operatively connected to a rotary mower, and a plurality of fins attached to the blade body, each fin extending generally vertically from the blade body and away from the vertical axis thereof and disposed at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the blade body such that the outwardly facing surface of each fin is presented to the air upon rotation of the blade. In operation, the fins force air and grass clippings upwardly and radially outwardly from the rotating cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 4276675
Abstract: An auxiliary handle for a power tool having an elongated housing of the type which is clampingly attachable to the housing of the tool near the forward end thereof. The handle includes a pair of clamping jaws which cooperate with a hand grasp to generate a clamping force which is transmitted to a split collar retained between the jaws which in turn is adapted to receive and clampingly engage a cylindrical barrel portion of the housing. The collar has a convex outer surface which defines a spherical zone, enabling the collar to be retained in a complimentary shaped annular concave recess defined by the jaws, while allowing the jaws and the hand grasp to be moved in any direction along the spherical zone to thereby position the hand grasp angularly in three dimensions relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4194345
Abstract: A rotary lawnmower includes a dish-like body defining the chassis of the lawnmower. The dish-like body has an upwardly extending side wall and a substantially continuous bottom wall. A set of wheels are mounted on this dish-like body. A motor is mounted in the body so as to cause the free end of the motor drive shaft to penetrate the bottom wall. The free end of the motor drive shaft is adapted for carrying a cutting blade thereon. A cover interfaces with the dish-like body to conjointly define therewith a housing enclosing the motor.
