Patent number: 9118990Abstract: Headset connector systems and headset engaging connector systems are provided. Headset connector systems can include two or more headset connector contact regions. Headset engaging connector systems can include two or more headset engaging contact regions to provide at least one of power and data. The headset connector system or the headset engaging connector system can include switching circuitry electrically coupled to the respective contact regions. The switching circuitry can be operative to determine an interface orientation between the headset connector contact regions and the headset engaging contact regions. The switching circuitry can also be operative to selectively route received signals based on the determined interface orientation. At least a portion of the headset connector system or the headset engaging connector system can be magnetically attractive.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2007Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: M. Evans Hankey, Emery A. Sanford, Christopher D. Prest, Daniele De Iuliis, Peter Russell-Clark

Patent number: 8712071Abstract: A wireless headset device that includes an earbud assembly and a primary housing assembly, fixed to the earbud assembly, is provided. The earbud assembly can include an earbud flexible circuit board having mounted thereon a receiver and processing circuitry. The primary housing assembly can include a microphone and a primary housing flexible circuit board electrically coupled to the earbud circuit board and the microphone. In some embodiments, the headset device can include at least one flexible circuit board and the primary housing can include a connector assembly. The at least one flexible circuit board can be electrically coupled to the connector assembly and can include Universal Serial Bus (USB) circuitry operative to process USB protocol communications and serial circuitry operative to process serial protocol communications.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2007Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey J Terlizzi, Emery Sanford, M. Evans Hankey, Terry Tikalsky, John Tang, Daniele De Iuliis, Peter Russell-Clark

Patent number: 8625836Abstract: This is directed to a cable structure for use with an electronic device. The cable structure can include one or more conductors around which a sheath is provided. To prevent the cable structure from tangling, the cable structure can include a core placed between the conductors and the sheath, where a stiffness of the core can be varied along different segments of the cable structure to facilitate or hinder bending of the cable structure in different areas. The size and distribution of the stiffer portions can be selected to prevent the cable from forming loops. The resistance of the core to bending can be varied using different approaches including, for example, by varying the materials used in the core, varying a cross-section of portions of the core, or combinations of these.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2010Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Aase, Cameron Frazier, Matthew Rohrbach, Peter Russell-Clark, Dale Memering
