Patent number: 4347026Abstract: A retaining means is disclosed which utilizes a resilient ring placed in an eccentric groove which partially penetrates its supporting member. The ring extends through the support member and bears against the member to be retained. Thus a constant retaining force is applied to the restrained member which allows the member to be adjusted without first removing the ring. The restraining force is sufficient to prevent unwanted movement of the restrained member when subjected to a vibrational environment.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1979Date of Patent: August 31, 1982Assignee: Atlantic Richfield CompanyInventors: Peter Schelhas, Walter Schlott

Patent number: 4341192Abstract: A fuel injection system is proposed which brings about an improvement in the acceleration behavior of an internal combustion engine. The fuel injection system includes metering valves actuatable by means of an air flow measuring device, at which valves a pressure difference can be held constant via control valves and the pressure difference is variable in accordance with operational characteristics of the engine. To this end, the control valves are located on a control pressure line in which a control throttle and an electromagnetic valve are disposed. At the same time, pressure limitation elements communicate with the control pressure line and, in the event of acceleration of the engine, reduce the extent of increase of control pressure and thus assure fuel metering corresponding with the operational state of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1980Date of Patent: July 27, 1982Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Heinrich Knapp, Wolfgang Maisch, Klaus-Jurgen Peters, Michael Wissmann, Gunther Jaggle, Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4326487Abstract: A fuel injection system is proposed which brings about an improvement in the acceleration behavior of an internal combustion engine. The fuel injection system includes an intake manifold having a measuring device arranged therein which is moved against a restoring force in accordance with the quantity of air flowing therethrough and thereby actuates the control slide of a distribution valve. The restoring force on the air flow measuring device is actuated by fuel, supplied by a fuel pump via a damping throttle, which operates within a pressure chamber into which the control slide protrudes by means of an end face. A check valve is arranged in a discharge line between the pressure chamber and the delivery side or the suction side of the pump, and opens above a predetermined pressure within the pressure chamber. This allows a rapid unloading of the pressure chamber and a rapid response of the fuel injection system in the case of an acceleration.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1980Date of Patent: April 27, 1982Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Maisch, Klaus-Jurgen Peters, Michael Wissmann, Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4288037Abstract: A fuel injection valve is proposed that serves for low-pressure fuel injection into the intake manifold of a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine. The fuel injection valve (1) includes a valve needle (12,12") which opens against the force of a closing spring (22), and this valve needle has downstream of the valve seat (16, 16") a fuel guidance cone (17, 17', 17") which tapers in the direction of fuel flow. The fuel guidance cone (17,17', 17") is so disposed that it projects into an air chamber (26) of the fuel injection valve (1) connected to an air line (9). The fuel guidance cone (17, 17', 17") may be embodied either conically or with a surface which extends in a concave manner and tapers tangentially toward the conical tip (29, 29').Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1979Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4284048Abstract: A pressure control valve for a fuel injection system is proposed which serves to control the warm-up fuel quantity for a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine. The pressure control valve includes a movable valve part which is urged in the closing direction by a compression spring which is counteracted during the warm-up phase by a first temperature-dependent element, whose force on the compression spring below a predetermined temperature in the direction of an increase in the force of the first temperature-dependent element can be influenced by a second temperature-dependent element, so that the fuel-air mixture during the warm-up phase can be adapted to the requirements of every internal combustion engine.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1979Date of Patent: August 18, 1981Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4197823Abstract: A supplementary air valve controlling a supplementary air quantity during the warm-up phase of an internal combustion engine. The supplementary valve is arranged in a lateral channel which bypasses the throttle valve and has a flat vane provided with a flow-through aperture; the vane is pivotable about a shaft eccentrically situated with respect to the flow-through aperture by means of a bimetallic spring provided with an electric heating coil energized through the engine ignition switch and which rotates the vane to uncover the cross-sectional areas of two spaced-apart, coaxially arranged air supply tubes which together form a part of the lateral channel and the vane has at least one further flow-through aperture for opening the cross-sectional area of a pressure control line which when closed, permits the induction tube pressure downstream of the throttle valve to prevail in the air control line, and when opened, the induction tube pressure upstream of the throttle valve prevails in the air control line.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1978Date of Patent: April 15, 1980Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Reinhard Schwartz, Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4192271Abstract: A regulating apparatus is proposed for a fuel supply system for a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine, which serves to enrich the fuel-air mixture furnished to the engine when it is started cold and while it warms up. The regulating apparatus comprises a pressure-regulating valve which sets the fuel pressure, the closing force of which on the movable valve part is influenced by a temperature-dependent element by means of a relay device and a regulating spring coaxially correlated therewith. Accordingly in a predetermined temperature range, the temperature-dependent element and the movable valve part are connected only by the regulating spring.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1978Date of Patent: March 11, 1980Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Klaus-Jurgen Peters, Michael Wissmann, Peter Schelhas

Patent number: 4175102Abstract: A fuel supply device, which serves to predetermine a fuel quantity that is proportional to the aspirated air quantity, and also serves to spread the air-fuel mixture. The fuel supply device includes an air metering device, which is arranged in the air intake manifold of the internal combustion engine and activates a fuel metering device, which has a control slit that opens a control groove by a varying amount. The control slit and the control groove are rotatable relative to each other, and the control groove has at least one control edge, which overlaps the control slit and is formed at an angle relative to the axis of rotation. The control slit is arranged in a guide sleeve and the control groove is arranged in a rotatable sleeve mounted in the guide sleeve with the rotatable sleeve being arbitrarily shifted relative to the guide sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1978Date of Patent: November 20, 1979Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Max Greiner, Klaus J.
