  • Patent number: 6378346
Abstract: The invention relates to a Steckel hot rolling mill comprising at least one reversing roll stand (1) as well as coilers (6,7) which are positioned upstream and downstream and present torque-controlled drives. The aim of the invention is to improve such a hot rolling mill in such a way that it optimally counteracts variations in tension and/or mass flow caused by changes in process parameters and allows for high quality hot rolling, especially of very thin hot rolled strips. To this end the invention provides for a looper (8,9) to be positioned between both the coilers (6,7) and the reversible roll stand (1), which supplies actual values for adjusting tension and mass flow.

  • Patent number: 6295852
Abstract: In a method and a device for descaling a metal strip, the metal strip is guided in a transport direction from a first roll stand to a second roll stand. A descaling device is positioned between the first and second roll stands. A descaling liquid is sprayed onto the metal strip from a working distance relative to the metal strip via the descaling device. The metal strip is moved at the location of the descaling device by a forced deflection amount in a direction transverse to the transport direction via an advancing element. A position of the descaling device is adjusted based on the forced deflection amount such that the working distance stays the same.

  • Patent number: 6192765
Abstract: A planarity measuring roller is constructed as a loop lifter which is adjustable relative to a rolled strip. The loop lifter includes a plurality of measuring zones located next to one another over the width of the rolled strip. Each measuring zone includes a rotatably mounted individual measuring roller which is pivotable in a clockwise direction and interacts with a force measuring device. Each measuring roller is mounted in a pivotable housing-like lever frame. The pivot point of each lever frame, the point of rotation of the corresponding measuring roller and a force introduction point of the force measuring device arranged underneath of the pivot point of the lever frame form an approximately isosceles triangle.

  • Patent number: 6070472
Abstract: An arrangement for measuring the planarity of a rolled strip which is under tension in a hot strip rolling train with a roughing train and a finishing train including several roll stands and a reel. At least one measuring roller is arranged in rolling direction between the first roll stand of the finishing train and the reel, wherein the rolled strip is guided over each measuring roller, so that the measuring roller is bent as a result of the strip tension; in addition, pick-ups for measuring bending of the measuring roller are provided.

  • Patent number: 5961022
Abstract: A driver for rolled strip includes a first roll which is mounted so as to be essentially stationary and a second roll which is adjustable relative to the first roll. The second roll is supported in a swivel frame which is adjustable by a pressure medium cylinder. The swivel frame is composed of two oppositely located links which are connected in the area of their common swivelling axis by a base which is supported on both sides thereof in the driver frame. The links can be adjusted by pressure medium cylinders which can be actuated separately and the base connecting the links is constructed as a torsion spring.

  • Patent number: 5771732
Abstract: A Steckel mill or coiler rolling mill includes at least one reversing stand and drivers and coiler furnaces arranged on the entry side and the exit side of the reversing stand, wherein the reversing stand, the drivers and the coiler furnaces are connected to one another through roller conveyors for the strip to be rolled. At least one heating unit is provided in at least one of the sections formed between the coiler furnaces and the reversing stand, wherein the heating unit covers at least a portion of the section.

  • Patent number: 5149004
Abstract: A method for controlling the positions of displaceable pressure rollers during the start-up of coiling strips in reeling installations. The method includes raising pressure rollers from a mandrel of the reeling installation before the strip beginning enters and before the next winding is placed. After the strip beginning has passed each pressure roller, the mandrel is moved into a position of operation. The gap between the pressure rollers in operating position and the mandrel is adjusted to at least n times the strip thickness, wherein n is the number of windings of the strip at each pressure roller. A slip-free contact of the strip on the mandrel is effected by spreading segments of the mandrel.
