Patent number: 11504089Abstract: An adaptor for adjusting electrical signals propagated along an electrically-conductive path between a drive unit and a catheter of an intravascular ultrasound imaging system includes a catheter connector disposed along a first end of a housing and configured to receive the catheter. A drive-unit connector is disposed along a second end of the housing and is configured to couple the adaptor to the drive unit. A catheter-conductor interface electrically-couples to a transducer conductor of the catheter. A drive-unit-conductor interface electrically-couples to an electrical conductor of the drive unit. An adaptor conductor electrically-couples the catheter-conductor interface to the drive-unit-conductor interface. A tuning element is electrically-coupled to the adaptor conductor and is configured to adjust electrical signals propagating along the adaptor conductor based, at least in part, on an operational frequency of a transducer disposed in the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2018Date of Patent: November 22, 2022Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventor: Peter Thornton, Jr.

Patent number: 11058307Abstract: Medical devices including optical connector cable assemblies are disclosed. An optical connector cable assembly may include an optical connector cable having a first optical fiber extending therefrom. The optical connector cable may include a distal connector configured to connect to a guidewire. The distal connector may include an inner housing and a guidewire locking mechanism. The distal connector may also include an actuator. Actuation of the actuator may move the inner housing from a first position to a second position. When the inner housing is in the first position the guidewire locking mechanism is configured to secure the guidewire and the guidewire is rotatable with respect to the optical connector cable. When the inner housing is in the second position the guidewire locking mechanism is in an open state for receiving or removing the guidewire.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2017Date of Patent: July 13, 2021Assignee: BOSTON SCIENTIFIC SCIMED, INC.Inventors: Misha Young, Peter Thornton, Jr., Alfonso D'Alessandro, Corey Higham

Publication number: 20200121286Abstract: A catheter for an ultrasound system can a marker disposed on the hub. The marker is optically or magnetically readable and, when read, identifies the catheter. A drive unit can include an optical or magnetic marker reader. Alternatively or additionally, a catheter may include an active memory arrangement that can be read by an appropriate reader on the drive unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2018Publication date: April 23, 2020Inventors: Joe Corrigan, Peter Thornton, JR.

Publication number: 20200121280Abstract: A catheter assembly for an ultrasound system can include an integrated pullback arrangement. For example, the catheter assembly can include a telescoping pullback section having a first telescope, a second telescope, a distal grip coupling one of the first or second telescope to the distal sheath of the distal section, and a proximal grip coupled to another of the first or second telescope so that the first telescope can be retracted into the second telescope and a sensor to determine a position of the first telescope. Another example includes the sensor and a pullback slider arrangement having a housing defining a slit, a coupler disposed within the housing, and a slider handle extending through the slit and coupled to the coupler. In another example, the coupler and housing can be gripped and slid relative to each other.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2019Publication date: April 23, 2020Inventors: John D. Marshall, Peter Thornton, JR., Lewis J. Thomas, III, Isaac J. Zacharias, Gaylin Mildred Yee

Patent number: 10499820Abstract: Medical devices and methods for making and using medical devices are disclosed. An example medical device may include a system for measuring blood pressure. The system may include a pressure sensing guidewire including a pressure sensor and a first optical fiber extending proximally from the pressure sensor. The system may also include an optical connector cable including a distal connector capable of being coupled to the guidewire. The optical connector cable may include a second optical fiber that is capable of optically communicating with the first optical fiber. A coupler may be disposed within the distal connector and disposed between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2014Date of Patent: December 10, 2019Assignee: BOSTON SCIENTIFIC SCIMED, INC.Inventors: Roger W. McGowan, Christopher Smuk, Peter Thornton, Jr.
