  • Publication number: 20080011134
Abstract: A sawing strip for fixing a substantially cylindrical workpiece when cutting off slices from this workpiece with a wire saw has a first face, which is concavely curved perpendicular to its longitudinal direction for connecting to the workpiece, a second face opposite the first face for connecting to a mounting plate, and two side faces which connect the first face and the second face, two edges of the sawing strip at which the side faces meet the first face at a distance a from each other, an imaginary line on the first face marking its minimum distance d from the second face, the side faces being at a distance b, measured at the height of the line and perpendicular to the distance d, wherein the distance b is less than the distance a. The sawing strip is useful for decreasing waviness of wafers cut from a cylindrical workpiece using the sawing strip.

  • Publication number: 20050217109
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a camshaft for an engine having cylinder head bolts, includes providing a tube, placing at least one separately produced cam in a position on the tube along an axis of the tube, fastening the cam to the tube and pressing at least one external indentation into the tube at a part of the circumference of the tube. The indentation is pressed transversely toward the tube axis into inner and outer surfaces of a wall thickness of the tube at an axial location along the tube axis and does not encircle the tube. The indentation is also disposed along the tube and beside the cam with no part of the indentation being covered by the cam and the indentation being sufficiently deep to allow access to the cylinder head bolts of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6935292
Abstract: Camshaft configurations are increasingly more closely assembled in motor vehicle engines such that access to the cylinder head bolts is obstructed. Indentations 2 along built-up camshafts, which comprise a camshaft tube 1 with slid-on camshaft structural components, such as the cams 3, permit through corresponding rotation free access to the cylinder head bolts even after they are in the installed state. In order to be able to employ for the camshaft structure tubular camshafts 1, according to the invention a pressing tool 10 with bottom dies 12, 13 is provided such that during the pressing operation of the indentations, the camshaft tube 1 advantageously is not deformed beyond the original outer diameter d and the camshaft 1 can be assembled advantageously form-fittingly through subsequent sliding-on of the cams 3.

  • Publication number: 20050102834
Abstract: In order to significantly reduce the weight of a single-piece cam (2) of a built camshaft, the cam (2), seen from the semi-cross-sectional point of view, comprises a T-shaped cross section having a narrow bridge (4) that extends towards the center thereof and a wraparound top (5) which protrudes by approximately the same distance on both sides and has an approximately constant cross section. The inventive cam (2) is preferably produced by hot forging or cold forging a semifinished pipe or round plate. Preferably, a camshaft comprising a shaft and at least one cam (2) is assembled by providing the support axle with an enlargement in the joining area by means of rolls, rollers, or knurls, said enlargement being greater than the inner diameter of the cam (2), and by inserting the cam (2), resulting in a positive and/or non-positive connection between the support axle and the cam (2).

  • Publication number: 20040244528
Abstract: A camshaft receives cams and camshaft bearings. The chamshaft is rectified in the zones receiving the camshaft bearings such that the diameter of the shaft in the bearing zones is smaller than the diameter of the shaft in the cam receiving zones. Thus, it is possible to mount the cams simply without damaging the bearing zones when the cams are mounted on the shaft, and to provide an economical manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 4300384
Abstract: A device and method for determining the alcohol content of a test person's breath comprising, a breathing sample line adapted to receive the test person's breath, a valve in the sample line for closing a flow of breath therein, a test chamber connected to the sample line downstream of the valve for receiving and testing the breath and a pressure sensing transducer connected to the sample line upstream of the valve for sensing the attainment of a predetermined pressure in the sample line. A clock is connected to the pressure sensing transducer and begins to operate when the preselected pressure has been obtained. The clock is connected to the valve and opens the valve only after the expiration of a preselected time period where the preselected pressure has been maintained throughout the period.

  • Patent number: 4245997
Abstract: A device and method for measuring the concentration of a gas carried in a medium such as air comprising, an indicator tube having material therein which progressively changes color along its length as it is exposed to the gas to be measured. A flow device is connected to the indicator tube for drawing or pushing the carrier with gas therethrough to cause the progressive change in color in the indicator tube material. A light barrier in the form of a light source and detector facing each other and on either side of the indicator tube is provided and mounted to slide along the axis of the indicator tube and in a direction of propagation of the progressive color change. A reference light barrier is provided in the area of the indicator tube which is not exposed to the progressive color change to produce a reference signal which is compared to a signal produced by the movable light barrier.

  • Patent number: 4123227
Abstract: Device for determining variations within an indicator tube having a material which varies in light intensity or color in the presence of particular gases, comprises a first set of light barrier devices as light sources and photoelectric cells on respective sides of the tube. A reference set of light barrier means is provided for sensing a reference value of light through the tube and is connected to a comparator for sensing the variations between it and the first set of light barrier tubes and for recording this information on a counter. The counters are connected to a time signal transmitter and time signal receiver and the predetermined variations which occur at various time intervals are picked up by an indicator or alarm circuit designed to show the variations and indications which are sensed in a particular time period.
