  • Patent number: 11892823
Abstract: In an industrial automation system including a first and a second wireless communication device communicating with each other via a cellular network, the first wireless communication device obtains, while the first wireless communication device is attached to a first base station of the cellular network, knowledge about to which base station the second wireless communication device is attached and if the second wireless communication device is attached to a second allowable base station, the first wireless communication device detaches from the first base station and attaches to the second base station.

  • Publication number: 20230369853
Abstract: A technique for a control method and a control system in a substation is provided. The control system includes a substation feeder, an intelligent electronic device, IED, a merging unit, and BUS network connecting the IED and the merging unit. The control method includes providing measurement signals by the substation feeder to the merging unit, transmitting, by the merging unit, measurement data based on the measurement signals of the substation feeder to the IED via the BUS network, identifying, by the IED, a fault condition based on the measurement data, transmitting, by the IED, a conditional control command to the merging unit via the BUS network, determining, by the merging unit, whether the condition of the conditional control command is met, and if so initiating, by the merging unit, the control measure of the substation feeder circuit.

  • Patent number: 11706659
Abstract: A method of operating an intelligent electronic device that is in a wireless communication with a base station of a wireless communication system is described. The method includes monitoring at least two QoS parameters of the wireless communication and controlling the operation of the intelligent electronic device based on the at least two QoS parameters, wherein the intelligent electronic device includes a wireless communication module, wherein the wireless communication is carried out between the wireless communication module and the base station of the wireless communication system, and wherein the at least two QoS parameters are determined at least in part in the wireless communication module and are transferred to a control module of the intelligent electronic device over an interface.

  • Patent number: 11665563
Abstract: A method for enabling communication of data relating to samples of electric measurements, the method being performed in an intelligent electronic device, IED, including a cellular radio module, the IED being configured to protect power system equipment. The method includes the steps of: detecting channel quality using the cellular radio module, the channel quality relating to a channel between the IED and a base station; transmitting packets using the cellular radio module, each packet including data relating to samples of electric measurements for protecting power system equipment; and increasing sample rate of the electric measurements when the channel quality is worse than a first threshold.

  • Publication number: 20230089081
Abstract: For detecting evolving faults in an electric power grid, a machine learning based model is trained and the trained model used using events with time information as input. An event is generated by a function in an intelligent electronic device based on one or more values measured from the electric power grid, the event indicating at least the function and its output. In the training, a plurality of event patterns that are extracted from event history data are used, an event pattern including in occurrence order events preceding within a time span a disturbance event. The disturbance event is an event resulting to an interruption in power supply in the electric power grid. The trained predictor is outputting predictions for occurrence times of disturbance events in the electric power grid, and they are displayed for detecting evolving faults in the electric power grid.

  • Patent number: 11546099
Abstract: A method for enabling communication over a cellular network between a first communication device of a first substation and a second communication device of a second substation. The substations are connected to a power transmission line. The method includes the steps of: receiving multicast communication from the first communication device, wherein the multicast communication including a plurality of multicast packets, and each multicast packet includes a phasor value associated with the first substation and a sequence number; receiving an acknowledgement from the second communication device, the acknowledgement including a plurality of sequence numbers of the most recently received multicast packets, that the second communication device has received from the first communication device; and determining a packet loss to the second communication device when there is a mismatch between the sequence numbers of the acknowledgment, when compared with the sequence numbers of the received multicast communication.
