  • Publication number: 20140288686
Abstract: A method is provided for managing playback of one or more items of digital media content, for example to ensure naturalistic transitioning between items of digital media content, comprising the steps of: (a) identifying a description which defines how to manage the playback of one or more items of digital media content, the description including descriptive metadata, and (b) utilising the description within a digital media player to control automatically the playback of digital media content. Associated systems, computer program products, digital media players and servers are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20140156791
Abstract: A microprocessor based system provides a media player with access to remotely-stored digital media content and/or its associated metadata. The system is capable of accessing the content, so that the media player is provided, by the system, with a suitable interface, accessible by that media player, for interacting with the content. The system may be packaged as a USB memory stick and can be inserted into, for example, a PC running a legacy media player with no intrinsic ability to access remotely stored content. The PC can in this way be enabled to access the remote content.

  • Patent number: 8621423
Abstract: A customized software application can be built for a specific type of Wireless Computing Device by (a) automatically determining attributes of that type of Wireless Computing Device; (b) automatically determining which Software Components from a library of Software Components are compatible with that type of Wireless Computing Device based on values of the attributes determined in (a); and (c) automatically combining the compatible Software Components together to generate a customized build of the application, compatible for that type of Wireless Computing Device. The attributes can be metadata. This approach enables rich Network Applications to be automatically built for Wireless Computing Devices of a wide variety of types.

  • Publication number: 20130318187
Abstract: The invention enables digital music content to be downloaded to and used on a portable wireless computing device. An application running on the wireless device has been automatically adapted to parameters associated with the wireless device without end-user input (e.g. the application has been configured in dependence on the device OS and firmware, related bugs, screen size, pixel number, security models, connection handling, memory etc. This application enables an end-user to browse and search music content on a remote server using a wireless network; to download music content from that remote server using the wireless network and to playback and manage that downloaded music content. The application also includes a digital rights management system that enables unlimited legal downloads of different music tracks to the device and also enables any of those tracks stored on the device to be played so long as a subscription service has not terminated.

  • Publication number: 20080222621
Abstract: A customised software application can be built for a specific type of Wireless Computing Device by (a) automatically determining attributes of that type of Wireless Computing Device; (b) automatically determining which Software Components from a library of Software Components are compatible with that type of Wireless Computing Device based on values of the attributes determined in (a); and (c) automatically combining the compatible Software Components together to generate a customised build of the application, compatible for that type of Wireless Computing Device. • Publication number: 20080109528
Abstract: A customised Network Application suitable for a specific type of Wireless Computing Device is automatically generated and sent to that Device. The Application is able to download a preview of content on demand by an end-user from a Server that stores the content and to play the preview of the content. It can also display an option or function that enables the end-user to download and buy that content from the Server. Attributes for that type of Wireless Computing Device are defined as Metadata; attributes for various different kinds of mobile content are also defined as Metadata; the Server then determines what content is compatible with the Wireless Computing Device by comparing the Metadata of the content and the Wireless Computing Device. The kind of content that can be provided includes ringtones, wallpapers/pictures, screensavers, realtones/truetones, full music downloads, video, SMS & MMS alerts, and mobile games.
