  • Patent number: 4910386
Abstract: Apparatus for storing and heating medical or dental examination instruments includes a treatment cabinet having a number of drawers including an instrument drawer located immediately beneath a ledge mounted in the interior of the treatment cabinet. The ledge is formed with a recess within which a heat conductive plate is mounted having heating elements affixed thereto. The heating elements are effective to heat the heat conductive plate, which, in turn, elevates the temperature of the interior of the instrument drawer in excess of the body temperature of a patient. Examination instruments stored within the instrument drawer are heated to the same, elevated temperature in preparation for use in examining a patient.

  • Patent number: 4775591
Abstract: Ionomers in the salt form, such as the ammonium salts of sulfonated polystyrene, are precipitated from solution in a non-polar organic liquid by contact with a polar liquid in which the ionomer has only limited solubility (e.g., methanol) and a particulate solid such as a polyphenylene ether, followed by contact with a salt such as ammonium chloride, preferably in solution in the polar liquid. The resulting ionomer-coated polyphenylene ether particles are easily filtered and handled.

  • Patent number: 4692385
Abstract: A coated article and method for manufacturing the same wherein an alloy substrate of iron, nickel, cobalt, or titanium base has a diffusion layer formed thereon of an intermetallic boride of the substrate alloy. A coating is subsequently deposited on the diffusion layer, which coating is a refractory, ceramic or intermetallic compound having desired wear and/or corrosion resistant properties superior to those of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4248444
Abstract: Steering mechanism for a hospital type carriage such as a mobile stretcher supported by two pairs of spaced fore and aft casters respectively on opposite sides of the same and swivelled about vertical axes, said mechanism comprising a sprocket chain or the like extending around sheaves or sprocket gears connected respectively to one pair of said fore and aft casters, one of said sprocket gears being releasably connectable to the caster upon which it is mounted selectively for rotation with said caster about the swivel axis thereof or permit free swivelling of said caster, the chain being operable to cause the pair of fore and aft casters connected thereby to either travel in a straight line or respectively swivel similar amounts in opposite directions to effect turning movements efficiently, accurately and quickly. Quick disconnect also can be made by cam means foot-actuated to permit free swivelling of all casters.

  • Patent number: 4003047
Abstract: An emergency exit latch is disclosed for locking and unlocking a portal such as a window or door and sending a signal to a remote point when the portal has been unlocked. The latch includes a latch operator which is rotatably mounted on the portal. The latch operator includes a tang which is integral with the operator and performs a locking function by mating with means associated with the frame when the latch operator is rotated into the locked position. When the operator is put in the locked position, the tang also actuates a switch. Thus, when the operator is rotated out of the locked position, the switch changes state and provides an indication that the door is no longer properly locked. In the preferred embodiment, the design of the exit latch is such that the switch will change state even before the window has become completely unlocked.

  • Patent number: 3976090
Abstract: The valve has an input end through which hydraulic fluid is introduced and a main output end through which the hydraulic fluid is transmitted to the mechanism which is controlled. Intermediate the input and output ends is a bypass through which the hydraulic fluid can flow back to the sump which flow occurs until a movable piston within the device closes off the bypass.

  • Patent number: 3949466
Abstract: A process for bonding a copper or nickel end junction piece to an aluminum electrical conductor wire. The copper or nickel end junction piece is used to make the electrical connection with terminals in meters, fuse boxes, switches and the like, thus eliminating such junctions with the aluminum wire and hence eliminating the possibility of the formation an aluminum oxide connection which may give rise to overheating and subsequent fire. The end junction pieces may be applied on-site after the aluminum wire is cut to the desired length. No special pretreatment of the aluminum wire end is necessary prior to the addition on the end junction piece.

  • Patent number: 3934928
Abstract: An operatory-type chair having a seat to which a back rest is pivotably connected for movement between upright and rearwardly extending positions by an electric motor interconnected to said back rest by a rotatable screw driven by said motor. Movement of the back rest is controlled by limit switches which stop the motor when either limit of movement is reached, the invention comprising an adjustable program switch included in said control system which operates to stop the motor when the back rest reaches a desired position intermediately of the opposite limits of movement thereof, as controlled by said limit switches.
