The spindle guide assembly includes a drive assembly actuable to rotate the spindle, a shuttle assembly mounting a spindle end and a guide track assembly which guides the shuttle assembly in reciprocal movement along both a vertical cover deployment/retraction path, and laterally along a spindle storage path.

Each pivot rod is provided as a telescoping rod with the distalmost end being movable radially outwardly from the pivot. A tensioner resiliently biases the distalmost end to the retracted position. A drive selectively rotates the spindle to thereby extend or retract the cover.
