  • Publication number: 20160160710
Abstract: One variation may include a product including: an engine having at least one cylinder, the cylinder having at least one blowdown exhaust valve, at least one scavenging exhaust valve, and at least one intake valve, the engine further having a first actuator connected to the at least one blowdown exhaust valve and a second actuator connected to the scavenging exhaust valve and controller connected to one of the first or second actuator and adapted and configured to advance the timing of one of the blowdown or scavenging exhaust valves when the controller receives a braking signal.

  • Publication number: 20090044788
Abstract: One implementation of an air boost system for an engine includes a boost device and an accumulator adapted to store pressurized fluid and selectively provide pressurized fluid to the boost device. A pump may deliver fluid under pressure to one or both of the accumulator and the boost device in at least some operating conditions. A first control valve may be disposed between the pump and the accumulator to control fluid flow to the accumulator, and a bypass may be provided between the pump and the first control valve. The bypass may, in at least some operating conditions, permit at least some of the pressurized fluid from the pump to bypass the accumulator and be delivered to the boost device. In one form, the accumulator is carried by the boost device in a compact unit.

  • Patent number: 6360709
Abstract: A piston and cylinder assembly according to the invention includes a cylinder block having a cylinder defined by a cylinder bore wall, a cylinder head connected to the cylinder block, and a piston for reciprocating in the cylinder relative the cylinder head. A combustion chamber for an air/fuel mixture has a volume formed by the cylinder bore wall, cylinder head, and the piston, and is divided into an intake side and an exhaust side by a longitudinal center axis of the piston. A spark plug is mounted in the cylinder head and extends into the combustion chamber to ignite the air/fuel mixture therein. A crown of the piston has a raised peak offset from the longitudinal center axis for providing a homogeneous air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber near the spark plug.

  • Patent number: 5302073
Abstract: A dumper for use in dumping the contents of a container. The dumper includes a hollow receiving portion for receiving therein at least an upper end of the container and an outlet portion for guiding contents emanating from the container to a desired location. A mechanism for effecting a relative movement between the receiving portion and the upper end of the container and an orientation of the receiving portion onto the upper end of the container is provided. An inflatable bladder mechanism is mounted on an inwardly facing surface of the receiving portion and oriented to engage a peripheral side surface of the container, when inflated, with sufficient force to clamp and hold the container to the receiving portion. A tipping mechanism is also provided for tipping the receiving portion and the container in unison only when the bladder is inflated.
