  • Patent number: 6663849
Abstract: A method of making antacid coated chewing gum products comprises the steps of providing chewing gum cores; providing a coating syrup comprising a bulk sweetener, calcium carbonate and a binding agent; and applying the coating syrup to the cores and drying the syrup to produce a sugarless coating on the cores. The coating on the cores produces a high viscosity in saliva when the gum is chewed, in that 4.5 grams of said coating dispersed in 30 ml of water has a Brookfield viscosity at 23° C. of at least 1.6 centipoise.

  • Publication number: 20020037340
Abstract: A method for producing a chewing gum with an improved release of a lipophilic active agent, as well as the chewing gum so produced, is obtained by using a hydrophilic gum base. The preferred and novel gum base includes hydrophilic polymers, hydrophilic softeners/emulsifiers and fillers, but is essentially free of hydrophobic elastomers and hydrophobic softeners, as well as waxes and elastomer solvents. The lipophilic active agent is preferably added to a coating on a chewing gum pellet made using a hydrophilic gum base, such as by being mixed into a coating solution. The coating solution may contain a high-intensity sweetener. An active agent may also be used in the gum core.

  • Publication number: 20020004083
Abstract: Perillartine is used to sweeten chewing gum in a manner that gives a modified release of the perillartine. The perillartine may be encapsulated, partially encapsulated, partially coated, entrapped or absorbed. It my be used in a chewing gum coating, as a dusting agent or in a centerfill of a liquid-center gum. It may be codried with other sweeteners, or subject to a combination of the foregoing steps in order to modify its release from chewing gum.

  • Patent number: 5405623
Abstract: Methods and compositions for providing improved processability for chewing gum. Pursuant to the present invention, the particle size of the sorbitol component is chosen so that a chewing gum composition is created that is sufficiently firm for processability through a typical chewing gum manufacturing process. To this end, a method is provided for regulating the firmness of a chewing gum composition including sorbitol comprising the step of selecting the particle size distribution of the sorbitol so as to create a chewing gum having desired firmness. By choosing sorbitol with reduced particle sizes, a firm chewing gum is achieved. Likewise, by choosing sorbitol with an increased particle size, a softer chewing gum is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5192561
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a stabilized sweetener ingredient containing aspartame, a stabilized aspartame sweetener ingredient for use in chewing gum, and a chewing gum composition containing the stabilized aspartame sweetener ingredient. The aspartame is blended with specific amounts of water, inorganic acid and an encapsulating agent to form a homogeneous mixture. The mixture is dried to form the sweetener ingredient. The sweetener ingredient is relatively stable and unreactive in the presence of cinnamon and other aldehyde-based flavoring agents.

  • Patent number: 5169657
Abstract: A sucrose-containing chewing gum ingredient is prepared by mixing about 50 to about 95 parts by weight polyvinyl acetate with about 5 to about 50 parts by weight of a solution comprising sucralose dissolved in a solvent. The mixture is then dried to drive off the solvent. A chewing gum is prepared by mixing sucralose-containing ingredient, gum base, a bulking agent and flavor to make a chewing gum composition.
