  • Patent number: 11663428
Abstract: A first signal is ready from a first machine-readable object, which may be part of a peg stored in a surgical asset tray. A first part number of a first surgical asset is identified based on the first signal. A label is printed to include a first machine-readable visual indicia representing the first part number. A second signal is optically read from the first machine-readable visual indicia. The first part number of the first surgical asset is identified based on the second signal. The first part number of the first surgical asset is stored in a non-transitory computer-readable medium. This method enables information about surgical assets used in the field to be transferred from machine-readable objects into electronic data stores efficiently, effectively, and semi-automatically.

  • Publication number: 20230055383
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods implement a unified workflow to capture data representing the usage of both sterile and non-sterile surgical assets. Such capture may be performed within, or at the edge of, the sterile field. Item usage data about both sterile and non-sterile items may be machine-captured, such as by using one or more of a bar code reader, RFID tag reader, and image capture device. The item usage data about both sterile and non-sterile items may be captured and stored into a single data store by a single software application executing on a single computer, and displayed by that software application in a single user interface. A user may provide input to that software application to certify both the sterile and non-sterile item usage data.

  • Patent number: 10909343
Abstract: A peg, suitable for insertion into a hole in a surgical tray, includes a cap piece, a directional member, and a columnar protrusion. The cap piece includes a machine-readable object that contains data representing information about one or more surgical assets. The directional member has a directional feature which points in a particular direction and which may be oriented to point to one or more surgical assets having the properties represented by the data on the machine-readable object. The columnar protrusion is suitable for being securely inserted into a hole in the surgical tray, such as by being pushed into a hole in a rubber footer. Removal of a surgical asset from the tray is performed by reading data from the machine-readable object that points to the surgical asset and using that data to modify a count of the type of object contained in the tray.
