  • Patent number: 8054799
Abstract: Systems and techniques for routing frames in one or more radio access networks based on a physical addressing scheme involve assigning a unique identifier to a virtual local area network that includes a path connecting an access point to a radio network serving node. For each of multiple nodes in the radio access network, the virtual local area network is associated with a port for routing frames towards the radio network serving node and/or a port for routing frames towards the access point. Frames that include a destination address associated with a mobile station associated with the access point are unicast from the radio network serving node towards the access point using the virtual local area network.

  • Publication number: 20060189322
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for providing admission control for the admission of a mobile terminal (STA2) to a mobile network, whereby said admission control is based on at least one parameter (APP) that characterizes the radio channel that shall be used for a connection of the mobile terminal (STA2) to the mobile network and on at least one parameter (STAP) that characterizes the traffic flow of said connection, an admission controller (AC) and a communication system therewith.

  • Publication number: 20060182027
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling data traffic in a telecommunications network (150), said control being carried out in terms of a statistic modeling of the traffic transmitted by the network (150) by means of a gaussian distribution of the data flow. According to the invention, one such method is characterized in that a characteristic value of the Gaussian distribution is weighted by means of a parameter ? which varies according to the intensity of the variations or the discontinuity, of the traffic process by said network (150), said weighted value being used to evaluate the traffic in the network.

  • Publication number: 20060099928
Abstract: The present invention is based on inserting an additional information into the admission control requests (7,8) defined in IEEE 802.11e in order to identify and differentiate the requests (7,8) related to emergency calls. By doing this, the entity entitled to perform the admission control, i.e. the central controller (3), or, in other words, the entity entitled to decide whether there are enough network resources for a requested call to be established, can handle a resource request for an emergency call in a well adapted way.

  • Publication number: 20050226258
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of establishing a connection between a user equipment (126) of a first wireless telecommunication network (104) and a second network (116, 118, 120), the first and second networks being coupled by a plurality of gateways (122, 124), each of the gateways having an IP address, the method comprising: receiving a connection request (130) from the user equipment, using a domain name server (DNS, 106) of the first network to determine a set of IP addresses of gateways of the plurality of gateways through which the requested connection can be established, receiving network condition data being descriptive of a network condition of the first and/or second network, selecting one of the IP addresses from the set based on the network condition data, establishing the connection through the gateway identified by the selected one of the IP addresses.

  • Publication number: 20050058069
Abstract: A router of a communication network, for example an Internet Protocol communication network, comprises processors for determining its internal load status and, on receiving a flow of packets of data associated with a traffic class, assigning certain internal resources of the router to the received flow as a function of the traffic class of the flow and the determined load status of the router.

  • Publication number: 20030156568
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of selecting multimedia data coding formats in a communications system having at least two terminals suitable for exchanging multimedia data. Each terminal has a set of coding formats listing the formats which it is capable of processing in reception and formats which it is capable of applying to multimedia data in transmission. Prior to any exchange of data between two terminals, each terminal sends its set of coding formats to the other terminal via a server. According to the invention, the server is connected to code format conversion means and, where necessary, it enlarges each set of coding formats received from a terminal as a function of the conversion means available to it, prior to forwarding the possibly enlarged set to the other terminal. In this way, the coding and decoding abilities of terminals in the system are enriched virtually, thereby reducing the number of calls that fail.
