Patent number: 8741135Abstract: A preparative chromatography column is equipped with one or more valves that can each be used to both inject a column packing into the column or withdraw used packing from the column, in addition to cleaning the supply and discharge lines associated with the valve itself, all by moving a movable plug within the valve body and all without protruding into the column interior. Each valve is mounted on the lateral wall of the column just above the filter plate at the column floor, and the plug is movable between a closed position in which the end surface of the plug is flush with the inner wall of the column and an open position in which the plug is recessed within the bore. Each valve has two additional ports in its valve body, positioned such that when the plug is closed, both ports are open to the valve bore, and when the plug is open, at least one of the ports is open to the bore. The position of the plug within the valve bore determines the valve function.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2010Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Maurice Agee, Sebastien Lefebvre, Sebastien Magnaud, Philippe Vernot

Patent number: 8562826Abstract: The plunger used as the upper enclosure in a preparative chromatography column is suspended by one or more rods that are supported by a frame through coupling connections on the frame that can fix the position of the rod(s) relative to the frame, while the position of the rod(s) is controlled by a motorized drive system that is suspended above the column. The drive system is mounted either to the column lid or to a functional plate positioned a short distance above the column lid. These constructions allow the plunger to be raised and lowered so that the column and its parts can be exchanged, all without the need for a hoist or crane.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2010Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Daniel M. Bailey, Philippe Vernot, Sebastien Lefebvre

Publication number: 20130108002Abstract: A shut-off device for a nuclear reactor component duct is provided that includes a plurality of elastic sealing rings, each radially expandable with respect to a common longitudinal axis between a retracted position at a distance from a wall of the duct and an expanded position for leaktight contact with the wall of the duct; a device provided for selectively moving the sealing rings between their retracted positions and their expanded positions; at least one member for locking in position the shut-off device in the duct to be shut off, distinct from the sealing rings, radially expandable with respect to the central axis between a retracted position in which the locking member is moved away from the wall of the duct and a locking position in which the locking member bears against the wall of the duct; a device provided for selectively moving the locking member between its retracted position and its locking position.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: AREVA NPInventors: Gilles Kapala, Walter-John Chitty, Jean Philippe Vernot

Publication number: 20120055555Abstract: Novel features enhancing the operation of a diaphragm valve include a specialized diaphragm profile for enhanced securement of the diaphragm in the valve body, and a quick-connect feature joining the diaphragm to its actuator, in which the forward end of the actuator contains a sloping surface, an expanded tip, and a shoulder, while the diaphragm contains a truncated bore with a complementary profile. The valve can be modular in construction to permit mounting of the valve to an instrument panel in close proximity to other valves or components to provide the ability to select among interconnected fluid flow paths.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2011Publication date: March 8, 2012Applicant: BIO-RAD LABORATORIES, INC.Inventors: Denis Saint-Paul, Philippe Vernot, Lilian Portier
