  • Patent number: 5634169
Abstract: Disclosed is a cartridge having an encoder wheel thereon for encoding EP supply cartridge characteristic information for an electrophotographic machine, the cartridge comprising, a sump for carrying an initial amount of toner. A shaft is mounted for rotation in said sump, and an agitator or paddle is mounted thereon in such a manner that when the shaft rotates, the paddle rotates into, through and out of engagement with toner carried by the sump. A single encoder wheel is mounted on the shaft, external of the sump, the encoder wheel positioned for proximate mating coaction with a coded wheel reader when the cartridge is mounted in position in the electrophotographic machine. A drive means, and a variable torque flexible coupling connects the drive means to the shaft to effect rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5631746
Abstract: Printer (1) having the capability of printing at 600.times.2400 dpi resolution simulates 1200.times.1200 dpi resolution by logically examining two lines of a 1200.times.1200 bit map and printing identically when possible and half black when only one of the two vertically adjacent bits signifies black, the bits for half printing being located to the right if the preceding bit is white and being located to the left if the preceding bit is black. This places the bits for half printing beside black bits and thereby extends the length of black printed, thereby reducing high frequency effects.

  • Patent number: 5622364
Abstract: Apparatus and method is provided for determining a relative vertical position of a media sheet within a supply tray by sensing a picked sheet traveling through a media path, and therefrom determining time and/or distance traveled by the picked sheet. The vertical position of the media sheet within the supply tray is translated into a relative media level in the supply tray.

  • Patent number: 5325166
Abstract: A printer for fusing images on sheets of at least three width size categories including small, medium, and large is operated by control through a microprocessor assigning -7 to full size sheets, +13 to small size sheets and +17 to envelopes. These are accumulated until the count reaches 127, at which the interpage gap is adjusted based on which of those three categories is being printed and which of the three categories will next be printed. This maximizes throughput without requiring a thicker fuser.
