  • Patent number: 8464777
Abstract: A method for forming a turbine or compressor wheel from a semi-solid material uses a die assembly that has an inner cartridge made up from a plurality of segments and an outer die. The semi-solid material is injected under pressure and high temperature into the die so that it flows into blade cavities defined between the segments of the cartridge. The cartridge is removed from the outer die and the segments are then separated to release the wheel.

  • Publication number: 20120251322
Abstract: A rotating fluid conduit, utilized such as a propeller or turbine, is disclosed that is characterized by a rotating annulus formed by a rotating inner hub and a rotating outer shell. Rotating internal vanes are arranged within the annulus and are affixed to the inner hub and the outer shell. The annulus area varies from the inlet to the outlet and the angle of the vanes, within the annulus, also varies to control the radial velocity and axial velocity of the fluid stream and thereby provide a corresponding change in the axially directed and radially directed energy of a fluid. This rotating fluid conduit is analytically calculated, to an exact solution, to deliver predictable performance at design and off design conditions.

  • Publication number: 20120156037
Abstract: A foil, utilized such as an airfoil or hydrofoil, characterized by a duct moving relative to a mass of fluid. The duct channels the flow of the portion of the fluid through which the duct is moving. A constriction within the duct increases the speed of the fluid constrained within the duct and thereby produces a pressure drop. The pressure drop induces a mass of fluid external to the duct and approximately parallel to the duct to accelerate into the duct. The acceleration of the external fluid mass into the duct generates a resultant force vector, which can be utilized, varied, and controlled to improve performance and reduce drag.

  • Publication number: 20120058500
Abstract: A microfluidics device to provide real time monitoring of platelet aggregation of a biological sample obtained from a subject. The device comprises a channel configured for passage of the biological sample, the channel comprising a protrusion configured to induce an upstream region of shear acceleration coupled to a downstream region of shear deceleration and defining there-between a region of peak rate of shear, the downstream region of shear deceleration defining a zone of platelet aggregation. The device further comprises a platelet detection means for detecting aggregation of platelets in the zone of aggregation as a result of passage of the biological sample through the channel. Methods to assess real time platelet aggregation of a biological sample obtained from a subject are further described.

  • Patent number: 6752403
Abstract: A working apparatus includes a body, an engine, axles each carrying ground engaging wheels or tracks for moving the apparatus over the ground, an operator's cab mounted on the body, and at least one working arm supported at or adjacent one end on the body at a position for movement relative to the body, the arm being adapted to carry a working implement at or adjacent a second end thereof, and wherein one of the front and rear axles is suspended from the body by a suspension system which is adjustable independently of the other axle to raise the body to a fully raised position in which an uppermost part of the body is at a maximum height above the ground and a fully lowered position in which an uppermost part of the body is at a minimum height above the ground.

  • Patent number: 4068373
Abstract: An improved component feed mechanism allows a component support table to move simultaneously with the component feed mechanism. The table has a plurality of guides for urging guiding component holding cartridges toward a work station. The table is movable transverse to the cartridge lengths. A friction block guide disposed above said table has a block movable parallel to said cartridge feed direction. A feed lever is pivoted on said block; means sense pivoted positions of said feed lever; and means selectively pivot said feed lever between cartridge engaging and retracted positions. The table moves transversely only when said feed lever is in a retracted position enabling concurrent motions of the feed lever and the table for reducing setup time of the machine.
