Abstract: A saw having a base assembly connected to a mounting portion, and a motor unit pivotally mounted on the mounting portion to allow the motor unit to perform chop cuts, has a pivotal locking mechanism for locking the motor unit in its lowest pivotal position. A table is mounted on the motor unit to enable the saw to act as a table saw. A table height adjustment mechanism is provided for adjusting the height of the table above the motor unit. The pivotal locking mechanism and table interact with each other to ensure that the table is in its highest position when motor unit is not locked in its lowest position.

Abstract: A saw having a base assembly, a motor unit pivotally mounted to the base assembly, and a first rearward pivotal guard pivotally mounted on the motor unit. The guard is pivotable from a first position surrounding at least a portion of the lower edge of a saw blade to a second retracted position where the portion of the lower edge of the saw blade is exposed. The saw also has a pivotal guard actuating mechanism which moves the rearward pivotal guard from the first position to the second position when the motor unit is pivoted towards the base assembly.
