  • Patent number: 5619547
Abstract: The guiding device comprises a body, the size of which corresponds to that of a fuel assembly, intended to rest on the lower core plate (20), equipped with holding means intended to be grasped by an assembly-handling machine, extended downwards by means (18) for positioning it on the lower core plate at an assembly location adjacent to the one intended to receive the assembly to be guided, and two wings (30) carried by the bottom part of the body, forming an angle of 90.degree. in a horizontal plane, each one having an inclined guide face (32) ending at the bottom above the location intended to receive the assembly when the device is in place. Each wing (30) can be retracted, starting from a deployed state, towards a position in which it is withdrawn within the horizontal size of the body.

  • Patent number: 5559843
Abstract: The lower part (31) of the pole (10) carries an expansible bush (40) engaged and fixed on the outer surface of the part (31) by one of the ends (41) of the bush and comprising longitudinally extending slots defining resiliently bendable strips. A group of balls (39) mounted to be radially movable in openings (38) in the lower part (31) of the pole (10) and bearing against the bendable strips of the expansion bush are movable between a retracted position and a position for expanding the bush (40), by a cylindrical cam (36) connected to an actuating rod (20). The device permits inserting the locking sleeve (8) in the guide tube (13) without risk of deformation of the end strips of the guide tube (13).

  • Patent number: 5118463
Abstract: The assembly (1) is immersed in the water of a pool and placed in vertical position. Detection of the rods (6) of the assembly exhibiting cracks giving rise to leakage is ensured by transmission of ultrasonic waves along the length of each of the rods (6) and by measuring the attenuation of the ultrasonic waves due to the presence of water inside the rods (6) whose cladding is cracked. The ultrasonic waves are picked up after propagation on the cladding of the rods (6) of the assembly along their length, below the lower end fitting (5) in place on the assembly (1). The detecting device comprises an ultrasonic transducer (11) capable of transmitting ultrasonic waves along the length of the rod from its upper part, and a receiver probe (16) for the ultrasonic waves, placed under the lower end fitting (5).

  • Patent number: 4681730
Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer carried by rod means of dimensions such that it may be inserted in the assembly between an end piece and the caps of the element, and a crossed movement moving mechanism for bringing the transducer above the different elements. It further comprises a mechanism for moving rod elements in the longitudinal direction of the fuel elements. The transducer is set up on rod elements with at least one degree of freedom about a shaft transversal to the fuel elements so as to be able to be applied flat against the end face of a cap.

  • Patent number: 4659537
Abstract: The apparatus is for dismounting nuclear fuel assemblies comprising a skeleton having an upper end piece, a lower end piece, guide tubes connecting the end pieces and fuel rods maintained by grids between the end pieces. The apparatus comprises a cell displaceable vertically in a water tank and provided, at its upper part, with a base plate having an opening for passage of one said fuel assembly and provided with means for gripping an upper part of the bundle of fuel rods. A centering unit is operable by a handling tool and is arranged for gripping the upper end piece of a fuel assembly. The guide tubes may be disconnected from the upper end piece while the bundle of fuel rods is retained in the cell.
