  • Patent number: 5167278
Abstract: Apparatus for testing an oil well comprises a tubular test string (10) fixed at the bottom of production tubing (11) and including a ball test valve (14) at its bottom end. The apparatus also includes a wireline assembly (50) suspended from a cable (51) so as to be capable of being lowered down the tubing. Beneath a measurement device (53) the wireline assembly includes a housing suitable for engaging in the test string (10), and an actuator rod suitable for engaging a moving sleeve (34) mounted in the tubular test string. By exerting traction on the cable (51) the sleeve (34) is raised, thereby opening a distributor valve (52) received in the thickness of the wall of the test string (10), and thereby putting the fluid situated beneath the test valve (14) into communication with the measurement device (53) via a passage (20).

  • Patent number: 5117685
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of testing a well, comprising the steps of:providing a pipe string with a tester valve assembly adapted to allow or prevent fluid flow from an isolated lower interval of the well into the pipe string, said tester valve assembly comprising a valve element movable between a closing and an opening position, said valve element being in a predetermined initial position;suspending from a cable inside the pipe string a measurement assembly including sensor means, and lowering said measurement assembly into engagement with valve actuating means of the tester valve assembly, the arrangement being such that said sensor means is exposed to the fluid of said interval as a result of said engagement, irrespective of the position of the valve element;exerting a succession of tensions and releases on the cable to operate said valve actuating means, said succession effecting successive changes in the position of the valve element, while measuring by said sensor means the modifications of flui

  • Patent number: 4915178
Abstract: The method comprises inserting each of the sections of a tool in turn into a well under pressure via a pressure lock and using a first cable of small diameter in order to overcome the pressure in the well head, and then replacing the first cable by a second cable of larger diameter once the weight of the sections which have been inserted into the well exceeds a predetermined value which is a function of the diameter of said second cable.

  • Patent number: 4678035
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the new and improved methods and apparatus disclosed herein, a full-bore valve is cooperatively arranged to be tandemly coupled in a typical production string including a string of production pipe that is coupled to a packer isolating a lower well bore interval. A wireline measuring tool is lowered into the production string to land the tool in a measuring station defined therein above the valve. An anchor on the tool is extended to secure the testing tool in the measuring station. A mechanism is also provided on the testing tool for releasably engaging the actuator for the full-opening valve to open and close the valve by successive upward and downward movements of the tool suspension cable. A fluid-testing device is arranged on the testing tool for making successive measurements of one of more characteristics of the connate fluids in the well bore as the valve is successively opened and closed by the upward and downward movements of the cable.

  • Patent number: 3950021
Abstract: In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention as disclosed herein, a wireline pulling and running tool can be preset at the surface by simple adjustment for functioning as either a pulling or a running tool, and for release from an associated hanger mandrel by jarring either upwardly or downwardly. A tubular support that carries pivotally mounted gripping elements which are yieldably urged toward disengaged position, has a control body movably mounted therein. The control body has a plurality of sets of circumferentially spaced recess means than can be selectively aligned with the gripping members to enable release thereof in response to vertical movement of the control body from an initial upper or lower position where the body is releasably fixed to the support by a shear pin.
