  • Patent number: 4713955
Abstract: The method consists of a cold pilgrim rolling mill to effect a recoil movement of the chuck upstream followed by a return to its original position, at least once per rolling cycle. The period during which the chuck is withdrawn with respect to its rolling position is used advantageously for example to carry out the rotation of the chuck and/or to cause a lubricant under pressure to circulate between the chuck and the pipe. The method is applied particularly to the rolling of pipes with a large section, with high reduction rates.

  • Patent number: 4660398
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for controlling a rolling mill having oblique rolls which is used for rolling metal rods or tubes, and to the rolling mill for carrying out the process. The rolling mill according to the invention comprises at least three rolls distributed round the rolling axis, each of the rolls having a profile generated by revolution of decreasing cross-section, the roll axes not intersecting the rolling axis, and each of the rolls exerting on the product a pressure which permits helicoidal rolling to be carried out. The process involves controlling the forward feed while keeping the angle of inclination of each of the axes of revolution of the rolls constant relative to a secant straight line, the so-called control axis, which is a straight line perpendicular to the rolling axis and intersecting said rolling axis and which traverses the zone of contact between the roll and the product to be rolled.

  • Patent number: 4641513
Abstract: A method for cold rolling a tubular blank using a Pilger rolling mill, the tubular blank being rolled between a mandrel, lodged inside it, and the grooves of a pair of rolls, mounted within a stand which performs a back and forth motion along the axis of the tubular blank, the rolls being driven in rotation alternatively in one direction and in the other, in synchronism with the movements of the stand, a forward motion of the blank being done at least at proximity of the downstream neutral point. During at least a part of the return run of the stand, a holding back device, placed on the downstream side relative to the stand, prevents the displacement of the already rolled tubular blank along the rolling axis in the upstream direction during the return rolling run.

  • Patent number: 4541262
Abstract: The process and the device which are the object of the invention relate to the cold rolling of tubes by means of a Pilger mill. The tube blank is made to advance near each of the upstream and downstream dead centers reached by the roll stand during its forward and return cyclical movement and backward movement of the rear part of the blank is made possible during a return pass of the roll stand. This process makes possible a doubling of production without changing the operating rate of the roll stand.

  • Patent number: 4196770
Abstract: A continuous vertical casting line includes an elongated vertical casing of U-shaped section with a continuous casting mold at the upper end of the casing. Within the casing are rotatable support rings for supporting guiding rollers along the axis of the blank cast by the casting mold. The roller portion of the casing supports an extractor in the form of a single pair of extraction rollers. The extraction rollers are mounted on a support rotatable by a mechanism in a stationary base. The roller support is removably retained on its base, and the base is removably retained in the casing. The arrangement permits substantial reduction in weight of the casting line and simplifies both the construction of the casting line and the removal and replacement of components.

  • Patent number: 4184534
Abstract: A tilting device for tilting cast metal sections formed by continuous vertical casting. The sections are formed along a casting axis of the installation and are supported by a movable support on the tilting device during their casting. The tilting device is pivoted on a horizontal axis formed by wheels resting on a support. A cable and winch tilt the device to a horizontal position in which the movable support discharges the metal section. Rails to the front and rear of the casting axis and along which the wheels roll permit displacing the tilting device with respect to the casting axis in both the vertical and horizontal position of the tilting device. Cables and winches are used to displace the tilting device. The arrangement permits maintenance and repair of either end of the tilting device during normal operation of adjacent casting lines. The entire tilting device can be rolled away to the front of the casting installation for removal and replacement.
