  • Patent number: 4606404
Abstract: The invention refers to a process and devices for the reutilization of low-level thermal energy. According to the invention, devices are utilized forming an evaporator-mixer, advantageously connected to devices forming an evaporator-separator in order to supply from a low-level heat source, for example at 25.degree. C., higher-level heat, for example at 80.degree. C., by making use of the phenomena of evaporation and mixing of two fluids in vapor-pressure equilibrium at different temperatures. The invention also allows and applies in particular to the utilization of the noble thermal energy consumed in a high-temperature boiler. To this end, the heat given off in the boiler is first used to assure in evaporator-separators the formation or reconstitution of concentrated solutions from diluted solutions, and these concentrated solutions are utilized according to the needs of demand to extract by means of evaporator-mixers heat coming from a low-level source.

  • Patent number: 4507175
Abstract: A novel fractional distillation process and applications thereof to the production of thermal or mechanical energy from two low level heat sources wherein a mixture of two highly non-ideal reactive solutions such, for example, as of the water/ammonia type, is separated into its water and ammonia components in an apparatus comprising a cascade of condensers and evaporators operating respectively at the temperature of the cold source and at the temperature of the hot source and at staggered pressures. The residue and distillate formed are remixed in a mixing apparatus when it is desired to recover the thermal energy of dilution of the solutions. The invention is applicable, in particular, to the heating of buildings from low level thermal energy and from the thermal energy of "cold wind".

  • Patent number: 4485629
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for storage, in chemical form, of a quantity of mechanical or thermal energy, and for recovery, in mechanical form, of the energy stored; the invention also relates to devices for implementation of this method. The device comprises chambers for containing a non-ideal solution of a vapor and a liquid and chambers for containing liquified vapors separated from the non-ideal solution, these chambers being in close thermal contact, and whose volumes are connected by ducts to a motor for recovery of the stored energy during the recovery phase. Said motor can operate as a compressor for imparting the energy to be stored during the storage phase. The invention applies to the storage of any mechanical, electrical or thermal energy, and its recovery at the time of need.
