  • Patent number: 10111058
Abstract: A dual watch subscriber unit (SU) in a wireless communication system transmits short data during an active call in response to a request to transmit short data. The SU transmits, via a transceiver at the SU, pending short data on an inbound data channel of an inbound traffic frequency. One of prior to or after transmitting the short data, the SU substantially simultaneously receives: via a first receiver of the transceiver, missed communication media of the active call missed during transmitting of the pending short data on a first outbound channel of a first outbound traffic frequency; and via a second receiver of the transceiver, second communication media of the active call, transmitted prior to or after the missed communication media of the active call, on a second outbound channel of a second outbound traffic frequency. The SU then plays back media from the missed and second communication media.

  • Patent number: 9386568
Abstract: A wireless communication system (200) for providing two-way radio communication includes a base station (340) comprising a receiver (352) and a transmitter (354). The receiver receives transmissions from a first mobile communication unit (210) on a first frequency, assigned for reception. The transmitter transmits on a second frequency, assigned for transmission. The base station (340) is operable to receive a preemption call from a second mobile communication unit (220) on the first frequency, when the first frequency is not in use for reception and the second frequency is in use for transmission. Otherwise the base station (340) receives a preemption call on the second frequency. The base station (340) may comprise a second receiver (344), operable to receive the preemption call on the second frequency during a planned interruption to transmissions from the transmitter (354). Alternatively, the receiver (352) may receive the preemption call on the second frequency, during the transmission interruption.

  • Patent number: 9191921
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for identifying locations of communication devices in a simulcast network. A comparator sends a location request to communication devices in a simulcast network. The location request includes timeslot assignments for each talk group in the simulcast network. The comparator receives responses from the communication devices. Each response is received in a timeslot assigned to a talk group. The comparator assigns network resources to talk groups in the simulcast network based at least in part on the received responses.

  • Publication number: 20150327317
Abstract: A process for supporting mobile-site communication with a fixed-site in a wireless communication system wherein the mobile-site includes a controller and a plurality of transceivers is described. The process includes, at a mobile-site, assigning and programming at least one transceiver from the plurality of transceivers to monitor at least one first channel on at least one fixed-site, receiving a message on the at least one first channel identifying a call for one or more subscriber units operable in the mobile-site, assigning a second channel for the call on the mobile-site and informing the one or more subscriber units affected by the call of the assigned second channel of the call, and propagating the call on the assigned second channel to/from the subscriber units affected by the call.
