  • Patent number: 6044303
Abstract: A TENS device includes a pain intensity scale input for use by a patient in starting and stopping a pain treatment. Input data, as well as time and intensity data, is stored, analyzed and displayed to help a clinician evaluate the effectiveness of the pain treatment.

  • Patent number: 6041259
Abstract: A medical device, such as a TENS unit, includes a case and a cover which are pivotally connected. The cover is attached to a patient's clothing by a clip. When the cover and case are in a closed position, a control panel having a display and inputs is positioned between the case and cover. When a latch is released, the case pivots away from the cover to a first open position in which the control panel is generally horizontal. The patient may view and access the control panel when the device is in the first open position, without having to remove the device from the patient's clothing.

  • Patent number: 5961542
Abstract: A medical stimulator provides periodic treatment modes featuring an on time in which a pulse train of stimulation signals are delivered to the patient, and an off time in which no stimulation signals are provided. The rate and/or intensity of the pulse train may be modulated during the on time cycles. An intensity control is provided to allow the patient to increase or decrease intensity at any time. When the intensity control is actuated by the patient, the pulse train is automatically switched to a continuous mode in which a continuous train of pulses is provided while intensity is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5873900
Abstract: An electronic pain feedback system for use by a patient in determining the effectiveness of a pain treatment. The system includes an input device connected to a memory device. The input device includes a scale on which the patient enters perceived pain level data to initiate the pain treatment. The input device signals this data to the memory device where it is recorded. The electronic pain feedback system can alternatively include a clock and intensity sensor for recording a treatment session duration and intensity. The data received and recorded can be used by the electronic pain feedback system to evaluate the effectiveness of the pain treatment.

  • Patent number: 4622973
Abstract: A muscle stimulator system produces an electrical output pulse train which provides functional electrical stimulation (FES) of muscles or muscle groups. The muscle stimulator system includes a clinical device (which is line powered and independently programmable) and a battery-operated personal device (which can be programmed using the clinical device). In addition, external memory modules are provided to store the FES regimens established in the clinical device during the PROGRAM mode. The clinical device is capable of retrieving the FES regimens from the external memory module. The personal device includes a manually operated amplitude control which provides an amplitude control signal for controlling the amplitude of the output pulse train.

  • Patent number: 4350933
Abstract: A two-wire ballast arrangement for fluorescent lamp dimming is disclosed in which a modified transformer utilizing the natural leakage inductance associated with ballast transformers is used to achieve full-range fluorescent tube dimming at substantially constant filament heating voltage. Additional auxiliary secondary windings are disposed in predetermined spaced relationship to the primary winding and the main secondary winding to create a "tapping" effect in the magnetic flux. The mutual leakage inductances of the auxiliary secondaries in relation to the primary and the main secondary is utilized in a manner such that as the voltage is decreased to the primary, the voltage of the auxiliary secondary windings remains substantially constant to hold the filament heating voltage substantially constant. Embodiments are disclosed for use either with conventional 50/60 Hz or at high frequency, i.e. above 400 Hz.
