  • Publication number: 20230327989
Abstract: In some implementations, a first network device may transmit data to a second network device based on the data being associated with a media access control (MAC) address that is associated with an access port of the second network device, wherein the first network device and the second network device are included in a plurality of network devices interconnected by first tunnels associated with a forwarding plane and second tunnels associated with a control plane. The first network device may determine that the MAC address is associated with an access port of the first network device and may transmit, via one or more first tunnels, a notification indicating that the MAC address is associated with the first network device. The first network device may transmit, via one or more second tunnels, a notification indicating that the MAC address is associated with the first network device.

  • Patent number: 10103902
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for utilizing VXLANs within a network, such as a data center, for transporting L2 customer communications. Moreover, the disclosure describes techniques for auto-discovering, for each VXLAN, a corresponding replication node for replicating and distributing unknown destination, broadcast, and multicast frames to VXLAN Tunnel Endpoints (“VTEPs”) within the data center. Further, the techniques facilitate, by the replication node, discovery and auto-registration of the VTEPs for the respective customer network. As such, the techniques may facilitate configuration of VXLANs without necessarily relying on multicast protocols to provide such functionality. In this way, the techniques described herein may be used to supplement or even replace reliance on multicast protocols, such as the Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) protocol, when configuring VXLANs within a network.

  • Patent number: 8948032
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for measuring service-specific packet data unit (PDU) loss for individual pseudowires that interconnect two or more L2 customer networks in a L2 virtual private network (L2VPN), such as a VPLS instance. In one example of the techniques, for every pseudowire of a VPLS instance pseudowire mesh, a pseudowire label policer at each of the pseudowire endpoints maintains respective counters for the number of PDUs transmitted and received at the endpoint. The pseudowire label policer may identify service-specific PDUs transmitted and received over individual pseudowires of the VPLS instance by mapping pseudowire labels for the PDUs to the VPLS instance.

  • Patent number: 8665739
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for measuring packet data unit (PDU) loss in a L2 virtual private network (L2VPN) service, such as a VPLS instance. In one example of the techniques, provider edge (PE) routers that participate in the L2VPN measure known unicast and multicast PDU traffic at the service endpoints for the instance to determine unicast PDU loss within the service provider network. As the routers learn the outbound service (i.e., core-facing) interfaces and outbound local (i.e., customer-facing) interfaces for L2 addresses of customer devices that issue packets to the VPLS instance, the routers establish respective unicast transmit and receipt counters for the service endpoints that serve the customer devices. In another example, PE routers that participate in the L2VPN measure multicast PDU traffic at the service endpoints for the instance and account for internal replication by intermediate service nodes to determine multicast PDU loss within the service.
