  • Publication number: 20080028754
Abstract: A diesel exhaust system includes a supply of diesel fuel. The system further includes a first reduction path having a diesel fuel-fired burner operated to partially oxidize diesel fuel supplied thereto from the supply of diesel fuel and to introduce at least one of CO and H2 into an exhaust stream. The first reduction path further includes an oxidation catalyst and a first emissions reduction component that is configured to be regenerated by CO and H2 in the exhaust system. An associated method is disclosed.
    Type: Application

    Publication date: February 7, 2008
Inventors: Prasad Tumati, Wilbur Crawley, Navin Khadiya
  • Patent number: 7249455
Abstract: A diesel engine exhaust system includes a NOx absorber and a diesel fuel fired burner operated at an enriched fuel-to-air ratio to generate a sufficient quantity of CO and H2 for regenerating the NOx absorber. A method of operating a diesel exhaust system is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 23, 2003
Date of Patent: July 31, 2007
    Assignee: Arvin Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Prasad Tumati, Wilbur H. Crawley
  • Publication number: 20060168950
Abstract: A combination emission abatement assembly includes a first emission device such as a NOX trap and a second emission abatement device such as a soot particulate filter. Reformate gas from a fuel reformer is used to selectively regenerate both the NOX trap and the soot particulate filter. A method of operating an emission abatement device is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6871489
Abstract: The present invention involves thermal management of an integrated emission reduction system for the removal of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel engine exhaust streams. The inventive integrated emission reduction system may include a diesel particulate filter (DPF), a heat source for adjusting the temperature of the exhaust stream entering the DPF, at least one selective catalytic reducer of NOx, a heat exchanger for adjusting the temperature of the exhaust stream entering the NOx reducer, and a computing device for monitoring the temperature and/or pressure of the exhaust stream entering the DPF and the NOx reducer, and for controlling the operation of the heat exchanger and heat source, thereby improving the efficiency of the DPF and the NOx reducer.
