  • Publication number: 20230370165
Abstract: The invention provides an optical generator and method comprising an Optical Frequency Comb configured to generate a plurality of frequency tones and fed to a first demultiplexer, wherein the first demultiplexer is configured to injection lock at least one desired frequency tone; and a second demultiplexer connected to the first demultiplexer and configured to injection lock a second frequency tone from said plurality of frequency tones wherein the output of the second demultiplexer comprise two injection locked frequency tones separated by a desired frequency. The invention enables the generation of high frequency signals (>30 GHz) that exhibit high levels of purity (required for many applications). Moreover, the invention simplifies the architecture, by reducing the real estate occupied by the components. This is most important when all the devices involved are integrated onto a single chip.

  • Patent number: 11112310
Abstract: A gain switched dual comb spectroscopy device for spectroscopically detecting a sample substance, comprising a first slave laser light source configured to generate a first frequency comb having a first comb free spectral range, and a second slave laser light source configured to generate a second frequency comb having a second comb free spectral range which is different from the first comb free spectral range. A master laser light source is configured to inject seed light in to both slave laser light sources therewith to injection lock the generation of both the first and the second frequency combs. A photodetector part is arranged to combine the first and the second frequency combs and to detect a beat signal the spectrum of which comprises a third frequency comb including beat tones produced by interference between the combined first and second frequency combs.

  • Patent number: 9385506
Abstract: The present application provides an optical comb source in which the comb is produced by seeding a gain switched Fabry-Pérot laser with light from a single mode laser, while at the same time driving the Fabry-Pérot laser with a DC bias and RF signal.

  • Patent number: 9197326
Abstract: The present application relates to comb frequency generator devices generally and more particularly to the use of comb generators for use in fibre optic communications. More particularly, the application provides a frequency comb generator device. The device comprises a laser (30), a biasing circuit for providing a DC bias current (26), an RF circuit (22) providing a RF signal and a drive circuit (28) for combining the RF signal with the DC bias current to provide a drive current to the laser (30). With the DC bias current below threshold of the laser diode and RF bias with a frequence close to the relaxation ascillation frequency of the laser diode, a periodic pulse train is emitted with constant phase.

  • Publication number: 20130101290
Abstract: In wavelength switching optical networks, the optical data being transmitted may be routed to different end points by switching the operating frequency of the laser. However, the phase noise of the laser source increases following a switching event. This increased phase noise can prevent the successful transmission of phase modulation formats which are sensitive to it. Accordingly, it is generally necessary to wait a short period before transmitting data. However, the period may be as long as the data packet being transmitted (e.g. 3 ?S), which is a limiting factor. The present application obviates this problem by including a radio frequency pilot tone with the data prior to modulation onto the optical carrier.
