  • Patent number: 8055702
Abstract: A network caching system has a multi-protocol caching filer coupled to an origin server to provide storage virtualization of data served by the filer in response to data access requests issued by multi-protocol clients over a computer network. The multi-protocol caching filer includes a file system configured to manage a sparse volume that “virtualizes” a storage space of the data to thereby provide a cache function that enables access to data by the multi-protocol clients. To that end, the caching filer further includes a multi-protocol engine configured to translate the multi-protocol client data access requests into generic file system primitive operations executable by both the caching filer and the origin server.

  • Patent number: 7966942
Abstract: The invention relates to a bending mount (24) for a switch arrangement for magnetically levitated railways. The bending mount comprises at least a box-shaped support element (25) that extends in the longitudinal direction (x) and on which are fixed successively arranged supporting metal sheets (27) that extend on both sides of the support element and serve to assemble the pieces of equipment (10, 12). According to the invention, the supporting metal sheets (27) are configured as single-piece components which extend over the width of the bending mount and are interlinked in the longitudinal direction to form a chain. Said chain essentially does not influence the flexural rigidity of the support element (25) in the desired direction (y) of a switching arrangement but exhibits a high rigidity against torsion about the longitudinal axis (x) and against vibrations in the vertical direction (z).

The magnetic bearing contains a ferromagnetic, movably mounted bearing element (1) and at least two magnetic devices (3o, 3u) arranged on opposing sides of the bearing element (1) and equipped with windings (6), wherein during operation of the magnetic bearing, electric currents are conducted through the windings (6) and these currents are regulated such that in an equilibrium state between the bearing element (1) and the two magnetic devices (3o, 3u), bearing gaps (10o, 10u) of predetermined size (So, Su) form. According to the invention, the temperatures produced in the magnetic devices (3o, 3u) during operation are measured and the regulation of the currents takes place such that in the equilibrium state, regardless of the load situation, the same temperatures appear in the magnetic devices (3o, 3u) or in the windings (6) thereof (FIG. 1).

  • Publication number: 20110062341
Abstract: A sensor device, in particular for an image recorder for recording any desired radiation, in particular electromagnetic radiation, X-ray radiation, gamma radiation or some other particle radiation has a plurality of sensor layers which are arranged above one another and each have sensor elements. In each sensor layer, coefficients of a basic function are recorded by the sensor elements which are hard-wired and each directly provide a measured value, the magnitude of which corresponds to a coefficient of the basic function which may be a wavelet basic function. The sensor device provides a recorded image in compressed form and with simultaneously little complexity and can be used in a versatile manner, in particular in an image recorder or a digital camera or, in medicine, in an X-ray machine or a tomograph. Furthermore, the sensor device can be used in a satellite for distant reconnaissance or for the purposes of astrophysics.

  • Patent number: 7702873
Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing of common storage in a storage system is disclosed. In one embodiment, a storage system receives a request to set a space reservation for a volume associated with a logical aggregation of physical storage. In response, the storage system sets the space reservation to indicate that the logical aggregation of physical storage is to provide a specified amount of space to the volume. In one embodiment, space within the logical aggregation of physical storage is automatically reclaimed to set a delayed space reservation if the amount of unused space within the logical aggregation of physical storage is insufficient to set the space reservation. In one embodiment, the volume is either a space-reclaimable volume or a non-space-reclaimable volume. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
