    Abstract: A printed circuit board (23) used in a modular jack (1) includes a plurality of insertion holes (231, 232) defined through an upper side and a lower side thereof. A conductive layer coating (235) coats an inside of each insertion hole and a conductive base ring (236) forms a rim around each end of each hole. A solder mask (230) covers portions of a front and a rear surfaces of the printed circuit board around the insertion holes. The solder mask covers over the base rings and extends a short distance into each insertion hole, thereby increasing a creepage distance between conductive layer coatings of adjacent holes. This protects the printed circuit board from short circuiting.

    Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a connector body retaining a plurality of terminals and an adapter retaining a like number of connecting contacts. Each terminal includes a contacting portions extending beyond a bottom surface thereof. Each connecting contact includes a main body to be received within the base, a tail portion extending downwards thereof for electrically connecting to the printed circuit board and a first portion and a second portion extending sidewards and upwards from the main body. The second portion, therefore, is laterally offset from the first portion. Both the first and second portions have, respectively, opposed first and second barbs extending inward from a side edge for clamping a contacting portion of corresponding terminal therebetween. Each contacting portion further defines a notch in a side edge thereof for engaging with the first barb of corresponding connecting contact.

    Abstract: An electrical connector (12) includes an insulative housing (16) surrounded by conductive shield means (18, 20) and adapted to be mounted on a PC board (100). A mating portion (37) extends inward from a front surface (38) of the housing (16) which is covered by the shield (18, 20). A plurality of contacts (40) are disposed in the mating portion (37) and extend rearward for connecting to the PC board (100). The shield (18, 20) includes an opening (42)in its front face (22) for having a complementary plug connector inserted into the mating portion (37) of the housing (16). A grounding device (14) comprises a plate (50) having the similar configuration of the front face (22) of the shield (18), and engagement tangs (54) projecting from a bottom edge of the plate (50) rearward to form a bight section (56) and successively upward to form a vertical section (58). The vertical section (58) is generally sandwiched between the front face (22) of the shield (18) and the front surface (38) of the housing (16).
