Patent number: 9030641Abstract: A cooling assembly for a dual electronic image assembly having an open and closed gaseous loop. A closed gaseous loop allows circulating gas to travel across the front surface of a pair of electronic image assemblies and through a heat exchanger. An open loop allows ambient gas to pass through the heat exchanger and extract heat from the circulating gas. An optional additional open loop may be used to cool the back portion of the electronic image assembly (optionally a backlight). The cooling assembly can be used with any type of electronic assembly for producing an image. Some embodiments use cross-flow heat exchangers comprised of corrugated plastic.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2012Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: Manufacturing Resources International, Inc.Inventor: William R. Publication number: 20140258745Abstract: A data storage device that includes a magnetic storage device selects one or more power states of the magnetic storage device based on a time interval since a most recent time data has been read from or written to the magnetic storage device. The power state of the magnetic storage device can be changed from a higher power consumption state to a lower power consumption state when the time interval exceeds a predetermined value. The power consumption state may be changed from an active servo state to an intermediate power consumption state, a park state, and/or a standby state, depending on the time elapsed since the most recent time data has been read from or written to the magnetic storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2013Publication date: September 11, 2014Applicant: KABUSHIKI KAISHA TOSHIBAInventors: Richard M. Publication number: 20140258591Abstract: A data storage device includes a magnetic storage device and a non-volatile solid-state memory device. The addressable space of the non-volatile solid-state storage device is partitioned into a plurality of equal sized segments and the addressable space of a command to read or write data to the data storage device is partitioned into a number of equal sized sets of contiguous addresses, such that each set of contiguous addresses has the same size as a segment of the addressable space of the non-volatile solid-state storage device. Storage can be allocated in the non-volatile solid-state device for selected sets of the contiguous addresses by mapping each selected set to a specific segment of the addressable space of the non-volatile solid-state device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2013Publication date: September 11, 2014Applicant: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Eric R. Publication number: 20140201673Abstract: A user interface (UI) is displayed on a display coupled to an electronic device. The UI includes a first area of the UI visible on the display. A non-visible UI element corresponding to a second area of the UI that may be displayed in response to a user input on the electronic device is determined. An image of the non-visible UI element is drawn into a tile in a tile layer that provides a non-visible representation of views associated with the UI, the tile layer stored in a temporary memory area. The image drawn into the tile in the tile layer is compressed. In response to a user input on the electronic device, a representation of the second area of the UI is displayed on the display including the compressed image.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2013Publication date: July 17, 2014Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventor: Corbin R. Patent number: 8729900Abstract: A communication cable, such as a fiber optic cable, can comprise a conductive tape that extends along the cable and that facilitates locating the cable from a remote location, for example when the cable is buried under ground. The tape can comprise a low resistance for transmitting a locate signal along the length of the cable that can be detected remotely by a detector without exposing the cable. The conductive tape can be circumferentially applied around the core of the cable under the cable's jacket. Thus, the conductive tape can be accessed without exposing the core. The cable can include one or more buffer tubes for housing optical fibers. The buffer tubes and/or the jacket can comprise an antioxidant for preventing degradation associated with contact with copper or other metal of the conductive tape.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2010Date of Patent: May 20, 2014Assignee: Superior Essex International LPInventors: Lawrence R. Publication number: 20130332867Abstract: A background thread can be used to process events, e.g., a touch, gesture, pinch, or swipe, that are received on a touch sensitive device, or events, e.g., mouse scroll wheel events that are received on a input device, e.g., a mouse. The background thread can be used to process events when a main thread assigned to the Graphical User Interface (GUI) is interrupted. In such situations, the background thread can continue processing events. In cases where the main thread is interrupted and the event is scroll input, the background thread can draw content on the GUI in response to the scroll, so that the response to the scroll input observed by the user is unaffected by the interrupted main thread. By processing events and drawing content using the background thread while the main thread is blocked, the GUI can be navigated without having the user experience a stall or stutter.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2012Publication date: December 12, 2013Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: Corbin R. Publication number: 20130242425Abstract: A hybrid drive and associated methods increase the rate at which data are transferred to a nonvolatile storage medium in the hybrid drive. By using a large nonvolatile solid state memory device as cache memory for a magnetic disk drive, a very large number of write commands can be cached and subsequently reordered and executed in an efficient manner. In addition, strategic selection and reordering of only a portion of the write commands stored in the nonvolatile solid state memory device increases efficiency of the reordering process.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2012Publication date: September 19, 2013Applicant: Toshiba America Electronics Components, Inc.Inventors: Fernando A. Patent number: 8482695Abstract: A cooling system and a method for cooling an electronic display is disclosed. A preferred embodiment utilizes a first gas chamber positioned anterior to the front display surface and a second gas chamber in gaseous communication with the first gas chamber and positioned posterior to the electronic display. The space between the second gas chamber and electronic display defines a gap, where ambient air can be drawn through the gap in order to cool the electronic display. A cooling chamber fan preferably forces gas to circulate through the first and second gas chambers, in order to remove heat from the front display surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2012Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Manufacturing Resources International, Inc.Inventor: William R.
