  • Patent number: 8909284
Abstract: An outdoor broadband unit may be connected to an external portion of a customer premises. The outdoor broadband unit may include a radio frequency (RF) antenna to receive communications from a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network and a printed wiring board. The printed wiring board may include an integrated circuit (IC) chip to implement a subscriber identity module (SIM) to provide services for the LTE network. The IC chip may be soldered to the printed wiring board and have a rated temperature range corresponding to an industrial grade or military grade integrated circuit. The IC chip may provide authentication services for the SIM using a hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) connection. The printed wiring board may further include a control module to implement an air interface for the LTE network. A radome may contain the RF antenna and the printed wiring board.

  • Patent number: 8830081
Abstract: A visual indicator, such as a light emitting diode (LED), may display the quality of the radio frequency (RF) link. In one implementation, a device may include, a RF antenna; a control module to connect to a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network through the RF antenna; and a LED, disposed on an outer surface of the device, to emit light of a number of different colors, where the color to emit is selected based on a quality of the connection to the LTE network. The device may include an outdoor broadband unit connected to an external portion of a customer premise.

  • Patent number: 7583750
Abstract: A method of communicating at least one data burst using an assigned radio configuration. The assigned radio configuration is chosen from one of at least two radio configurations by examining which radio configuration supports a higher data transmission rate. This examination is determined by calculating the data transmission rate for the data burst(s) base on a power level and Walsh code for each of the radio configurations.

  • Patent number: 6662019
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating the initial power level and transmission rate of a burst on a secondary channel when the secondary channel is on fewer legs of a handoff, such as a soft or softer handoff, than the primary channel. In accordance with the present invention, the initial power level of the burst transmitted over a current secondary channel on a particular leg(s) is a function of a power level of a previous burst transmitted over a previous secondary channel on the identical leg(s) as the current secondary channel. For example, the initial power level of the burst can be based on the power level at the end of the previous burst shortly prior to the termination of the previous burst, where the termination of the previous burst was within a predetermined time interval of the start of the burst.

  • Patent number: 6618598
Abstract: A method for determining the initial power to be allocated to a secondary channel having a desired data rate. An SNR setpoint is first calculated where such setpoint is based on the SNR setpoint of the associated primary channel and system offset values. The initial power is then calculated based on the calculated setpoint.

  • Patent number: 6381235
Abstract: The wireless CDMA system includes a base station which generates a configuration channel as one of the forward control channels. The message slots in the configuration channel only include overhead messages. The base station also generates at least one other forward control channel, but these other forward control channels do not need to include overhead messages in any of their message slots. The mobiles in the system determine the location of the configuration channel from information in a sync channel generated by the base station. By camping onto the configuration channel, a mobile can quickly obtain the overhead parameters in the overhead messages. Because obtaining overhead parameters and keeping an updated version of the overhead parameters is an important factor in overall performance, the significant decrease in overhead message access time provided by the provision of the configuration channel greatly improves performance.
