  • Patent number: 5234661
Abstract: Method for manufacturing rings or discs having a blade or vane rim from a powder which is received in a mold cavity formed by a gas-tight casing (10, 11, 12) and is isostatically hot pressed in the casing to form a monolithic body. A core (13) of hexagonal boron nitride or graphite having through apertures (14) corresponding to the profile of the individual blades or vanes, is located in the mold cavity said apertures being filled with powder to form the blades or vanes as an integrated portion of the monolithic body obtained by the isostatic hot pressing.

  • Patent number: 5082623
Abstract: A method of preparing a parted circular ring, preferably a vane ring or sealing ring of a turbine, by the ring being hot pressed isostatically in a casing having radial partitions provided therein of the same material as the powder used for the isostatic hot pressing, a coating of release agent being provided at one side of the partitions.

  • Patent number: 5069866
Abstract: A method of preparing a compound pipe, the wall of which comprises an inner layer of a first material and an outer layer of a second material. Powders of the two materials are isostatically hot pressed to form a cylindrical tubular blank in which the first material forms an inner layer and the second material forms an outer layer, the blank after heating to a suitable temperature being extruded over a mandrel.

  • Patent number: 5000911
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a blade or vane of a turbine. A master of the blade or the vane is made of steel, and silicon rubber is molded around said master. The mold thus obtained is cut open and removed from the master to be used for producing a model of wax or the like, a mixture of graphite powder and a cement then being molded around said model. The model is melted and removed from the graphite mold which is filled with a compacted powder of metal or metal alloy. The mold with the powder compacted therein is isostatically hot pressed and then the mold is removed from the produced molded body by blasting.

  • Patent number: 4855103
Abstract: Method of manufacturing metal products from a powder (19) which is received in a mould cavity formed by a gas-tight casing (10, 11, 12, 13) and is isostatically hot pressed in the casing to form a monolithic body. A body (14) of graphite, hexagonal boron nitride, or another similar ceramic material is provided as a core in the mould cavity, and after the isostatic hot pressing this core is removed from the produced monolithic body by blasting.

  • Patent number: 4820484
Abstract: Method in producing a molding of an iron alloy, wherein the molding is produced by hot isostat pressing of a prealloyed powder comprising 0.5 to 2.8% coal by weight, 24 to 35% chromium by weight, from effective amount to 2% silicon by weight, from effective amount to 1.5% manganese by weight, 0 to 2.3% nickel weight, and 0 to 3.0% molybdenum by weight, and the residue iron.

  • Patent number: 4485961
Abstract: A method of joining together component parts of a solid, preferably metallic, material into a composite element by hot isostatic pressing involves forming the parts so that good contact is obtained between surfaces at a joint where the surfaces are to be joined together. The joint is covered by a layer of a powder or a mixture of powder with substantially the same composition as the material in the different component parts. This powder layer is covered by one or more layers of glass powder, which upon heating forms a gas-impermeable layer. Between the powder layer covering the joint and a glass powder layer nearest to said layer there may be applied an intermediate layer of a powder having a melting point which is above the temperature to be used for the isostatic pressing. The assembly of parts and layers is pressed isostatically in a known manner at such a temperature that diffusion bonding is achieved at the contact surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4445259
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bladed element of a rotary fluid machine, for example a turbine or compressor, includes the steps of securing a plurality of blades in a gas-tight manner in respective openings in a wall of a hollow casing with one end of each blade in the hollow interior of the casing and the remainder of the blade externally of the casing, filling the casing with powder which surrounds the blade ends within the casing, hermetically sealing the casing, and isostatically pressing the casing around the blade ends in order to form the casing, the powder and the blade ends into a monolithic body.
