    Abstract: A system and method for providing a magnetoresistive head is disclosed. The method and system include providing a first gap and providing a seed layer. The seed layer is disposed above the first gap and has a space therein. The method and system further include providing a magnetoresistive element substantially covering the space in the seed layer and providing a hard bias layer above the seed layer. A portion of the hard bias layer is immediately adjacent to a portion of the magnetoresistive element.
