  • Patent number: 11794149
Abstract: A filtration membrane coating comprising a hydrophilic polymer, a surfactant, and one or more charged compounds, each containing one or more sulfonate functionalities and one or more linkable functionalities selected from the group consisting of amine, monochlorotriazine, and dichlorotriazine. The hydrophilic polymer and surfactant form a thin primer layer which is also superhydrophilic. The primer layer improves flux, and enables improved adhesion of the one or more charged compounds, which form a charged dye layer on top of the primer layer when enhances rejection of charged divalent ions. The coating can be applied while the membrane is packaged in its final form, such as in a spiral wound or other configuration.

  • Patent number: 9428651
Abstract: A fouling and stiction-resistant coating suitable for use with marine streamers is made from a silicone undercoat layer and a powdery topcoat layer. The powdery topcoat layer is preferably a non-toxic fluoropolymer which has a low surface energy, a high modulus, and which is not continuous. There may also be a primer layer below the silicone undercoat layer. The powdery topcoat layer is preferably arranged to be penetrable by the feet of barnacles that come into contact with it, with the silicone undercoat layer arranged such that the barnacles' feet that penetrate the powdery topcoat layer bond with the silicone undercoat layer. The powdery topcoat layer is preferably further arranged to peel away from the silicone undercoat layer when force is applied to the barnacles to remove them from the coating.

  • Publication number: 20150344705
Abstract: A method for biofouling mitigation using a surface coating with magnetically aligned particles. A coating material that requires curing is provided, to which magnetic particles are added; this coating is applied to a surface. The applied coating is then subjected to a magnetic field in situ such that the magnetic particles are formed into microstructures that render the surface rougher than it would be without the microstructures. The coating is then allowed to cure. The random and non-toxic surface features created by the magnetic particles and magnetic field provide the coated surface with broad spectrum fouling resistance against organisms such as barnacles and bacteria.
