    Abstract: A mobile phone battery pack has a body housing a plurality of rechargeable battery cells and an energy storage device for electrical connection to said mobile phone. A switch connects the energy storage device to the battery cells. A microprocessor-based controller periodically closes the switch to enable charging of the energy storage device by the battery cells and opens the switch to disconnect the battery cells and to enable discharging of the energy storage device to power the mobile phone in a standby mode.
