  • Patent number: 8185287
Abstract: An electromechanically actuable parking brake for motor vehicles is disclosed. The brake includes at least one electromechanical actuator whose rotational movement is converted into a translational movement by an actuating unit, and which moves at least one brake element in such a way that at least one brake lining which is connected to the brake element is pressed with a locking force against a rotor which is connected to a motor vehicle wheel, wherein the current consumption of electromechanical actuator when the parking brake is engaged and/or released can be acquired. • Publication number: 20080173518
Abstract: A method for operating an electromechanically operable parking brake for motor vehicles with a driving motor furnished with a mechanical gearbox, uses a clutch pedal travel sensor to sense the position of a clutch pedal of the motor vehicle and a gear information sensor to find out whether the operator has selected a gear of the gearbox. Since the automated release operation of the parking brake is a safety-critical method, the signals of the clutch pedal travel sensor (18) and the gear information sensor (15) are checked in terms of their plausibility.

  • Patent number: 7341319
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for operating an electromechanically operable and/or electromechanically lockable parking brake for motor vehicles having an operating element, an electronic control unit, to which are sent wheel speed values from wheel speed sensors, at least one unit for generating a brake application force, and electromechanically lockable brake devices on at least one axle, with the brake devices being adapted to be applied by the unit. Also disclosed is a parking brake for motor vehicles for implementing the method. When wheel speed values are missing, the operator decides whether a static operating mode is assigned to the parking brake, i.e. that the brakes are applied with maximum allowable force upon actuation of the operating element, and release is possible only by means of new actuation of the operating element, or decides whether a dynamic operating mode is assigned, i.e. the brake application force is exclusively developed and provided during actuation of the operating element.

  • Publication number: 20060232126
Abstract: In a method for actuating an electrically actuatable parking brake system, the brake torque on the braked wheels is reduced in order to prevent the wheels braked by the parking brake from locking when the vehicle is traveling at a vehicle speed exceeding a predetermined minimum speed and the wheel slip exceeds a defined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20050001481
Abstract: A method for holding a vehicle on an incline by metering brake pressure into the wheel brakes of a brake system, and a starting aid perform the following steps: a) determining the brake pressure (p1) required to hold the vehicle b1) determining a time period dt according to a reduction of the brake pressure, in particular due to leakage of the brake system starting from the release of the brake pedal (3), or b2) comparing the determined brake pressure with the actual brake pressure starting from the release of the brake pedal (3), and c) increase of the brake pressure in the wheel brakes by c1) switching on a pressure generator (6, 7) c2) opening the on-off valve (20, 20?) c3) controlling a valve (8, 8?) in such a fashion that at least the brake pressure (p1, p2) required to hold the vehicle will develop in the wheel brakes.

  • Publication number: 20040130210
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for improving the control behavior and stability under a thermal load of an automotive vehicle control system with brake intervention, such as TCS, BTCS, ESP, etc. In order to reduce the thermal stress on the brake system in a control system without engine interface, some of the control functions that may involve critical thermal loads on the brake system are at least temporarily disabled or allowed only to a limited extent in defined control situations.

  • Patent number: 6701224
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining that a motor vehicle is driving uphill or downhill, and for this purpose the vehicle acceleration aref is determined by means of differentiation from Vref and compared with a longitudinal vehicle acceleration aL determined by a sensor. The method checks whether there is a deviation from normal driving by monitoring whether |aL−aref| is greater than a threshold value SL. In addition a deviation time t is determined, within which the deviation from normal driving prevails without interruption; the deviation time t is monitored to determine whether a minimum time value TM is exceeded in order to conclude that the vehicle is climbing or descending a slope when t is greater than TM. The invention also relates to a device that uses a digital logic with a counter to measure the times t, t1, t2 and tK, with one digit of the logic corresponding to a defined time unit.

  • Patent number: 5058699
Abstract: For controlling a traction slip control system with brake and motor management, motor regulating signals (m) are derived from electrical signals indicative of the brake pressure or which influence the brake pressure. Preferably, a brake pressure pattern (p[t]) is formed taking into account the pressure build-up and pressure decrease characterics of the wheel brakes or of the entire system as a basis for computing the motor regulating signals (m).
