Abstract: A method for producing data carriers equipped with integrated transponders is disclosed in which the transponders are supplied in a transponder web and are covered on one side with a label, wherein the transponders are separated and aligned before being assembled with an associated label. The disclosure further includes an apparatus for producing data carriers equipped with an integrated transponder that includes a device for supplying a first web of labels and a device for supplying a web of transponders adjoining one another and includes a joining station for cutting and separating the transponders from the transponder web which divides the transponders from the web, separates them and transfers them individually to the label web.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for laminating a layered structure (1), consisting of at least two plastic strips in sections, comprising successive panels with designs, for producing plastic cards along a conveyor path. Said device comprises heating and cooling devices (8, 9, 10, 11) which are positioned one behind the other and consist of individual compression elements, located on a common support (14), whose temperature can be controlled and which accommodate a whole number of panels and a drive unit which displaces opposing compression belts (2, 3) which can be driven intermittently in a direction of transport and between which the plastic strips can be displaced in sections through the heating and cooling devices. The aim of the invention is to provide a device which permits the production of plastic cards with a higher laminate quality.

In order to compensate shrinking, the laminated web is elongated to adapt to its nominal alignment size. Elongation is produced by material displacement along grid bars separating to-be-fabricated cards later punched off the web leaving a waste grid.

Abstract: A method to fabricate plastic cards is disclosed. A substrate tape is perforated with evenly spaced holes, and when placed in a working station, positioning pins engage into the holes. The spacing between two sets of pins is then slightly increased thereby tensioning the tape without stretching it thereby providing for highly accurate alignment.

Abstract: A method and equipment for manufacturing plastic cards, for example, credit cards and the like from a continuous layup including generally two plastic cover leaves and a printed insert. The plastic leaves to be heat sealed are fed through a plurality of press zones in which the lay-up is heated and subsequently cooled. The feed is performed by means of heat conducting, preferably metallic bands one of which carries pegs centrally disposed along its length which interengages with registration holes in the layup and a cooperating band to drive the bands and layup synchronously thorugh the press zones. Its use is in the mass production of plastic cards.
