    Abstract: A method for determining the adequacy of dialysis, using determination of urea concentration in the dialysate effluent with an enzymatic electrode incorporating a urease sensor, and conversion of this information to arterial urea nitrogen utilizing a "flow ratio" correction; and utilizing the arterial blood urea nitrogen derived from readings of an on-line monitoring sensor as an absolute quantity, and the urea reduction ratio as a relative quantity as a new end-point for dialysis adequacy.

  • Device for determination of tear constituents

    Abstract: A device for determination of a tear constituent, including an absorbent tear strip wick and an electrochemical strip connected to one end of the wick. The electrochemical strip is impregnated with an indicator chemistry. The device may be used to detect organic and ionic constituents in tears by placement of the free end of the tear strip wick in the corner of the eye, and after tear absorption by the device, determining changes in the chemistry of the device associated with the particular constituent.
