  • Publication number: 20170052972
Abstract: Some examples describe a method for using location addressed storage as content addressed storage (CAS). A checksum of a file may be generated during transition of the file to a retained state. The generated checksum, which may represent a content address of the file, may be stored in a database. The database may be queried with the content address of the file to retrieve a location address of the file corresponding to the content address of the file. The location address of the file is used to provide access to the file in the file system.

  • Patent number: 9514150
Abstract: Example embodiments relate to automatic WORM-retention state transitions. In example embodiments, a storage computing device may detect a request to access, via a file system, a file that is associated with a first retention state. The first retention state may indicate either a first type of WORM-retention protection for the file or no WORM-retention protection for the file. The storage computing device may determine, in response to the request, that the file should be designated with a second retention state. The second retention state may indicate a second type of WORM-retention protection for the file. The determination may be based on a retention policy file that is tightly integrated with the file system and metadata of the file. The storage computing device may transition the file (e.g., by communicating with the file system) to be associated with the second retention state instead of the first retention state.

  • Patent number: 9009429
Abstract: A source volume and a copy volume are stored, where the copy volume contains data that has been modified by writes to the source volume. In response to a write to a particular location and resource volume, a deduplication data structure is checked to determine whether the copy volume contains data that is the same as data in the particular location. In response to determining from the deduplication data structure that a copy volume contains the same data as the data in the particular location, a reference to the first location of the copy volume storing the same data is added instead of repeating storing of the data of the particular location in the copy volume.
