  • Patent number: 5190426
Abstract: A fastener for securing fixtures to concrete or masonry. The fastener includes a dual-thread first stage for engaging a bore in the concrete and stabilizing and centering the fastener as it taps its way into the bore. A single-thread second stage has a pitch larger than the threads of the first stage for receiving particulate cut from the bore so that the particulate will not interfere with driving the fastener completely into the bore.

  • Patent number: 5190425
Abstract: A self-drilling anchor for insertion into a workpiece such as a drywall to secure an element to the workpiece comprises a drilling portion having substantially parallelo-gram configured blade means for drilling a bore of pre-determined diameter into the workpiece, and a threaded portion including a generally cylindrical body of a diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the bore. The body has thread means for tapping into the bore to secure the anchor in the workpiece. The body also has a section having portions comprising a tapered portion of the threaded body portion and rearwardly inclined portions of the blade means of substantially less diameter or lateral extent than the diameter of the bore joining the drilling and threaded portions. The section receives particulate dislodged from the workpiece by the drilling of the bore, thereby preventing accumulation of particulate impeding insertion of the anchor.

  • Patent number: 5168781
Abstract: A drive socket for driving a fastener having a head into a workpiece, and constructed according to the teachings of the present invention, comprises a movable member having a socket and a sleeve having a bottom end. The movable or socket member is capable of axial movement with respect to the surrounding sleeve. An actuable member connects the movable member to the sleeve. The socket member is offset a predetermined distance upwardly from the bottom end of the sleeve. The actuable member positively restricts the axial movement of the movable member with respect to the sleeve so as to permit changing of the distance between the socket and the bottom end of the sleeve from a distance somewhat larger than the axial thickness of the head of the fastener to a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the head of the fastener in order to fully seat the fastener within the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5067864
Abstract: An improved fastener mountable within a plasterboard wall from one side of the wall and used with a screw comprises a fastener body and a toggle clamp pivotable between an insertion position and a toggle position. The fastener has a drilling tip adapted to drill a hole of sufficient diameter so as to accommodate the fastener, except for the fastener head which is adapted to coact with a driving tool. In a first embodiment, the drilling tip is an integral part of the fastener body and extends axially beyond the toggle clamp in its insertion position. In a second embodiment, the drilling tip is an integral part of the toggle clamp and extends axially beyond the fastener body in the insertion position of the toggle clamp. In each embodiment, the fastener is self-drilling.
