  • Patent number: 5466088
Abstract: A vehicle barrier having a vehicle barricade and a cooperating signal barrier for roadways or the like is provided. The vehicle barricade is pivotally connected to a housing, and is pivotal between a first generally horizontal position and a second angularly disposed position. A signal barrier cooperates with the vehicle barricade, and pivots between a first generally vertical position and a second generally horizontal position. A linear actuator is operably associated with the housing. A transmission is operably associated with the linear actuator and the vehicle barricade and the signal barrier for converting linear movement into pivotal movement of the vehicle barricade and signal barrier so that the barricade and the signal barrier pivot between the first and second positions.

  • Patent number: 5288164
Abstract: A vehicle barrier for positioning on a roadway or the like includes a support plate adapted for placement across a roadway, a plurality of tread supports formed in series on the support plate with a space between adjacent tread supports, a rod having a row of spikes attached thereto and being rotatably disposed across the support plate so that the spikes are movably received between respective spaced tread supports, a tensioning device for maintaining the row of spikes in a first, upwardly extending position and a device for lowering the row of spikes into a second position between the space tread supports. With this vehicle barrier, a vehicle approaching the barrier from one direction can cause the row of spikes in the first position to rotate downwardly to the second position when its tires impact a spike.

  • Patent number: 5228237
Abstract: A vehicle barrier includes a barrier plate pivotally attached to a base support for movement between a horizontal non-operative position and an angularly operative position, a brace extending rearwardly from a pivotal support secured to a rear surface of the barrier plate and spaced from a barrier pivot disposed on a front of the base support, a brace stop device mounted on a rear of the base support, and operating mechanisms for raising and lowering the barrier gate and associated brace from horizontal non-operative positions to angularly operative positions and vice-versa. When the barrier plate is in its angularly operative position, a rear end of the brace abuts the brace stop device so that the brace is in an inclined position. The brace lies in a substantially horizontal plane and is out of engagement with the brace stop device when the barrier gate is in its horizontal non-operative position.

  • Patent number: 4850737
Abstract: A vehicle barricade comprises a frame to which a barrier plate is pivotally mounted for being moved between a passage and a blocking position. First and second hydraulic motors operably interconnect the plate and the frame. An hydraulic power supply is operably connected with the hydraulic motors and includes an uninterrupted line for assuring constant power supply to the first hydraulic motor for thereby biasing the first hydraulic motor into extension and control valve means for selectively supplying power to the second motor for thereby causing selective pivoting of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4826349
Abstract: A vehicle barricade comprises a frame having an open top and bottom, side, front and rear portions. A barrier plate is pivotally associated with the frame for being pivoted between a first and a second position. A cylinder and piston assembly pivots the barrier plate between the positions. A first stop extends from and is carried by the barrier plate. A second stop is connected to the frame and is engageable with the first stop for preventing said barrier plate from pivoting beyond said second position. A plurality of tubes extend forwardly from the front portion and prevent the frame from moving in the event the barrier plate is impacted by a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4818136
Abstract: A hydraulic barricade comprising a support to which a barricade plate is pivotally attached. At least a first hydraulic cylinder and piston assembly is operably connected with the barricade plate for pivoting the barricade plate between an up and a down position. A pump supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid to a primary source and a secondary source of pressurized fluid. A directional control valve is interposed between the cylinder and piston assembly and the sources for causing operation of the cylinder and piston assembly and thereby pivoting of the barricade plate. A first check valve is interposed between the sources for permitting pressurized fluid to flow from the pump and the cylinder and piston assembly to the secondary source and for preventing fluid from flowing from the secondary source to the primary source. The secondary source includes an hydraulic accumulator for storing hydraulic fluid under pressure.

  • Patent number: 4630395
Abstract: A portable vehicle barrier for positioning in a roadway or the like has a base plate carrying first and second spaced stanchions forming a checkpoint therebetween. A shaft is pivotally secured to the base plate and extends transversely between the stanchions. A gate or barrier plate is pivotal with the shaft between a first horizontal position and a second angularly disposed position adapted for preventing vehicle passage through the checkpoint by engagement of the barrier plate with the vehicle. An anti-tampering means associated with said stanchions and said gate is provided for preventing unauthorized interference with the raising and lowering of the gate.

  • Patent number: 4574523
Abstract: A vehicle barricade has two concrete walls contiguously disposed along either side of a roadway for defining a checkpoint. A shaft is pivotally secured to the roadway and extends transversely between the concrete walls. A barrier plate is pivotal with the shaft between a first horizontal position and a second angularly disposed position adapted for preventing vehicle passage through the checkpoint by engagement of the barrier plate with the vehicle. A shaft retaining system is provided for preventing removal of the shaft and the barrier plate therewith from the roadway surface.
