  • Patent number: 5819976
Abstract: A promotional closure includes a sealed promotion-receiving member in the form of a compartment positioned generally within an outer closure cap, for disposition within an associated container. The sealed configuration of the promotion compartment desirably acts to isolate the promotional element therein from the contents of the container. Use on a container having carbonated contents is particularly facilitated by an arrangement by which a plastic film cover member which seals the compartment is sealed to an annular flange of the compartment to permit predetermined delamination and release of gas pressure from within the interior of the compartment.

  • Patent number: 5806707
Abstract: A removable inner compartment promotional closure includes a plastic closure cap having a circular top wall portion and a depending annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. A circular, resilient liner is positioned in the cap, and has a retaining element extending therefrom. A removable compartment member is positioned in the closure cap in engagement with the retaining element. The compartment defines an interior compartment adapted to receive promotional indicia, such as a promotional game piece, therein. The compartment is adapted to release from the cap after the cap is removed from the container. A sealed cover element may be positioned to extend over and close the compartment member, to isolate the compartment from the contents of the container. The promotional closure is used in conjunction with a simulated promotional closure, which configured to be is indistinguishable from the promotional closure cap.

  • Patent number: 4668458
Abstract: A carbonated beverage package comprising a bottle having a neck with an external thread and a closure comprising a base wall and a peripheral skirt having an internal thread interengaging the thread on the neck. A flexible liner is interposed between the interior surface of the base wall of the closure and the open end of the neck. The closure is made of plastic and includes a portion at the juncture of the base wall and peripheral skirt which is axially deformable relative to the remainder of the base wall to a permanent shape. When the closure is applied to the ncek and the closure is rotated by relative rotation between the closure and the neck while simultaneously an axial force is applied to the deformable portion of the cap, the deformable portion is displaced axially relative to the base wall to a permanent shape causing the liner to be deflected about a portion of the outer surface of the neck adjacent the open end of the neck thereby increasing the contact of the liner with the neck.

  • Patent number: 4664280
Abstract: A composite closure for a container is disclosed which includes an outer plastic cap and an inner plastic sealing liner. Formation and retention of the sealing liner within the cap is promoted by the provision of an annular liner-retaining lip which extends inwardly from a skirt portion of a cap in closely spaced relation to its top wall portion, and thus defines an annular recess therewith, Liner retention is further enhanced by the provision of a plurality of circumferentially spaced first liner-engaging projections which are arranged in adjacent pairs within the annular recess of the cap in converging relation with each other. Liner retention is further enhanced by the preferred provision of a plurality of second circumferentially spaced liner-engaging projections extending integrally from the top wall portion of the cap in operative association with the converging adjacent pairs of the first projections.

  • Patent number: 4578857
Abstract: A tamperproof package comprising a container having a neck and an annular radial flange beneath the neck and a plastic closure removably interengaged with the neck. The closure has a top wall and a peripheral skirt. A plastic pilfer band interengages the skirt, such that when the closure is applied to the container, the band is flexed over and engages beneath annular flange on the neck of the container, and when the closure is thereafter removed from the container, the band is prevented from removal from the container and is thereby disengaged from the closure. In a modified form the plastic pilfer band includes an integral liner which is severed from the band and engages the top wall of the closure during assembly of the band to the closure.

  • Patent number: 4537319
Abstract: A tamper-indicating cap and band assembly for use with a container with a neck having external screw threads. The assembly includes a container cap having internal screw threads that mesh with the container neck external screw threads. A coacting tamper-indicating ring band circumferentially encircles the cap and is connected to the cap with a plurality of flexible frangible bridges. The band has a plurality of internal band projections disposed in spaced relation on the inner periphery of the band. The cap has a plurality of spaced cap projections disposed in spaced relation on the outer periphery of the cap and positioned thereon for coacting locking gear tooth type engagement with certain respective band projections on the band when the assembly is threaded onto the container, and for locking gear tooth type engagement with other respective band porjections when the assembly is unscrewed from the container.

  • Patent number: 4093094
Abstract: An improved home canning closure system is provided for a home canning jar featuring a plastic ring and a metal lid combination which is adapted to allow excess pressure to escape while preventing the escape of the contents from the container. The plastic ring includes an annular top panel portion and a skirt portion depending downwardly from the outer periphery of the top panel portion. The skirt portion incorporates buttress threads on its inner surface to engage threads on the external neck of the home canning jar. The plastic ring features an upwardly and outwardly inclined ramp portion on its lower surface and a thin section at the junction of the top panel and skirt portions which combine to form a spring member to maintain a constant force to bias the metal lid into sealing engagement with the upper rim on the home canning jar.
