  • Patent number: 5045305
Abstract: An oral hygiene product especially for inhibiting caries is the form of toothpaste or mouthwash. The product maintains a low fluoride ion concentration in the mouth for longer periods than conventional products by the rapid precipitation of calcium fluoride either in the mouth or immediately prior to use. The product comprises a composition containing calcium ions and a further composition containing fluoride ions. The ion product of the calcium and fluoride ions of the combined product preferably exceeds 3.times.10.sup.-8 mol.sup.3 dm.sup.-9.

Date of Patent: September 3, 1991
Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co., division of Conopco, Inc.
Inventors: John R. Clarkson, Ralph M. Duckworth, Andrew M. Murray, Timothy J. Price
  • Patent number: 4935226
Abstract: The invention relates to a fluoride toothpaste through the use of which there is produced a sustained and enhanced level of fluoride in the oral fluids. The toothpaste comprises a calcium-free abrasive cleaning agent, an inorganic ionic fluoride, 0.01 to 0.6% by weight of a flavoring agent and 0.002 to 0.1% by weight of sodium saccharinate or the equivalent weight of another sweetening agent.

  • Patent number: 4935227
Abstract: The invention relates to a toothpaste containing a therapeutic agent through the use of which there is produced a sustained and enhanced level of the therapeutic agent in the oral fluids. The toothpaste comprises 30 to 75% by weight of an abrasive cleaning agent consisting at least in part of calcium carbonate, a therapeutic agent, 0.01 to 0.6% by weight of a flavouring agent, and 0.002 to 0.1% by weight of sodium saccharinate or the equivalent amount of another sweetening agent.

  • Patent number: 4837007
Abstract: The disclosure concerns an oral hygiene product which provides in the mouth a reservoir for the slow release of a therapeutic agent, such as fluoride ions. The product comprises two compositions which are mixed in the mouth or before introduction into the mouth. One composition comprises an aqueous suspension of particles which slowly release the therapeutic agent in salvia. The other composition comprises an aqueous solution of a cationic polymer.
