  • Publication number: 20070229485
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing power consumption in graphical displays is described. A display may includes decision logic to determine if a first pixel of the display will undergo a state transition, and if so, charge sharing switch logic switches the first pixel to a common bus for charge sharing with other pixels connected to the common bus. The pixels that are connected to the common bus share the voltage of the common bus. The pixels are then disconnected from the common bus and connected to the pixel driver. Other embodiments may be described.

  • Publication number: 20070153007
Abstract: Some embodiments of a method, processing system and computer system are described for sparse updating of displays. The graphics system includes a processing system, which has a video decoder to operate with a display controller. The video decoder and/or display controller may include logic for shutting down portions of the graphics system and for sending reduced video data to a display. In some embodiments, the graphics system sends signals to shut down portions of the display. In some embodiments, parts of the graphics system, computer system and display are able to shut down when there is not a difference in the video data to be sent to the display. In some embodiments, the amount of video data to be sent to the display is reduced during encoding and/or decoding by only sending the video data which is different. Other embodiments are described.

  • Publication number: 20070075935
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention is a technique to provide a hybrid imaging display. An array of pixel units is formed. Each pixel unit has emissive and reflective sub-pixels. A sensor senses ambient light condition to generate a sense signal. A drive circuit generates driving signals to drive the array of pixel units according to the sense signal such that the emissive and reflective sub-pixels are switched in a mutually exclusive manner.

  • Publication number: 20070001951
Abstract: A method and system to show information on a display while reducing power consumption of the display includes using a color cylinder to filter light from a light source. The color cylinder is to rotate around the light source to enable different primary color light to be delivered to a display system in a time-domain sequence. Frames are shown on the display in multiple sub-frames. Each sub-frame is associated with a primary color and is shown in synchronization with the same primary color being displayed.

  • Publication number: 20060289879
Abstract: Apparatus and systems, as well as methods and articles, may operate to display image information from one side of a light-emitting material layer disposed between a pair of non-opaque electrodes. The image information may be displayed through a transparent substrate, perhaps adjacent a conductive silicon layer, adjacent one of the electrodes. The image information may also be displayed substantially simultaneously from the other side of the light emitting material layer.

  • Publication number: 20040239665
Abstract: A graphics processing system, methodology, and signal structure are disclosed wherein commands are transmitted from a graphics controller system to a graphics display system along with frame data and synchronization information. The commands instruct the graphics display system to perform certain operations, such as performing video processing on the frame data, controlling parameters of the display, performing power management operation, and well as send information back to the graphics controller system. The signal structure entails transmitting the command signal from the graphics controller system to the graphics display system during the vertical synchronization width and/or horizontal synchronization width respectively of the vertical and horizontal synchronization signals and when a data enable signal is asserted.
